The public is invited to a candlelight and prayer vigil tonight in honor of Deputy Alton Creech who was critically injured in a motorcycle crash Thursday.

The vigil will be held at 9 p.m. in the parking lot across from the Georgia Regents Medical Center parking lot directly across from the emergency room entrance.

The 32-year-old deputy was off duty when he struck the back of a car with his personal Harley-Davidson motorcycle near the wesbound exit to Belair Road around 5:15 p.m.

Creech has been with the Richmond County Sheriff’s office since 2003 working in the road patrol, criminal investigations division and most recently as a deputy in the motorcycle division. During his time at the sheriff’s office, Creech took a leave of absence to do missionary work and joined the military.

According to Chronicle archives, Creech topped the sheriff’s office list as “top shot” for at least three years from 2008-2010.
