Rants & Raves

  • Follow Metro

FIRST, IT WAS about transportation for a wedding, next a three-car carport and now a whopping $284,000 for repairs and renovations spent on the Emperor Azziz residence. None, of course had approval from the state Board of Regents. It’s time we fire whoever is allowing this to happen!

IF MICHELE OBAMA is serious about doing something to curb obesity she needs to look into why the EBT card is used to buy soft drinks, candy and other sugar rich foods. I was behind an obese woman in Wal-Mart at the check-out counter who had a cart laden with such goods and paid for them with her Peach Card. It’s time for real action to address obesity!

I WAS SHOCKED to hear a student from Kazakhstan accused of hiding evidence for one of the Boston bombers was allowed to return to the U.S. in January without a valid visa. The question remains as to how many more were allowed into our country without the necessary visas? Who knows, there may be many among us planning us harm!

RAVES TO Augusta Chronicle for the lead editorial May 5, “A New Leash On Life.” It does take more community involvement and personal responsibility to slow down and ultimately stop the senseless killing of adoptable pets. Spay and neuter all pets. Adopt from our shelters to save lives, and stop breeding more, just to get a specific color or size dog or cat. Get involved. That’s what friends are for!

HOW GRATIFYING to see Obama’s pal, Warren Buffet, is making more money than ever before. I’m sure that since he pays so little in taxes, he will be patriotic and give more than required to bring his taxes up to the “fair share” level.

SHORT AND TO the point: One day a week trash pickup effective June 3, 2013. A 50 percent reduction of current rate applied on property tax. The claim that costs have risen as a fall-back for less does not hold water; all expenses have increased and the consumer’s incomes have been stagnant.

TO THE PERSON TALKING about Fort Gordon. If it wasn’t for Fort Gordon, Augusta would be just a dot on the map. People in Augusta are small minded and ignorant. But what can you expect from people never have set foot out of Augusta or the USA. Augusta making money off the soldiers that are stationed here.

We can- but only next election cycle. It's the governor and his political appointees looking the other way, but enough of us "uncool" peasants would have to care.

A RANT to Anti-Constitutional

A RANT to Anti-Constitutional Politicians.

When elected officials are caught on tape discussing end runs around the Constitution and how to by pass Second Amendment rights, Why aren't they removed from office?

This time 3 Liberal Democrat Senators have been caught on tape discussing the next proposed Social-Democrat Gun control law.

Senators, Sen. Loretta Weinberg, Sen. Sandy Cunningham and Sen. Linda Greenstein are clearly heard after a Thursday Gun Control hearing discussing processes to use and ways around the Bill of Rights. In fact, on tape, 1 them is caught saying “We needed a bill that was going to confiscate, confiscate, confiscate."

But aren't these same people telling us they don't want to confiscate guns, they just want better gun control?

Or at least that's what their Media spin factory keeps telling us while they move towards confiscation.

Liberals - They even kill babies to get what they want.

Residents Support the Fort

To the person slamming those in Augusta because of previous derogatory comments about Ft. Gordon, take it easy. 99% knew the comments were out of line and false. Don’t throw the people of Augusta who support the Fort under the bus. That’s simply creating an unnecessary disagreement. Most of us understand the value of the Fort in Augusta.

A Very Personal RANT

to the McDuffie Legal System (Investigator, Solicitor, and DA) for failing charge and/or to present to the Grand Jury for a bill of indictment.

Over 3 months ago a local in-home Healthcare worker was fired and the police were called to report the thefts of money from a blind 90 year old mother.

3 Months is more than enough, time given the evidence presented, to make an arrest.

When will there be an arrest in this case?

It is amazing to me how some

It is amazing to me how some people spend their lives obsessed with guns. Those senators are from New Jersey State Senate, and states are allowed to pass gun control laws- you know, like the Constitution says.

Remember how politicians are elected to carry out the will of the people? And many people want gun control laws. It is truly stunning how the people that are the most vocal about THEIR rights have no problem trampling on the rights of others- including other people's right to have an opinion and to have free speech.

Now, if you would take the time to listen to what was really said, and not believe some nutcase blog, you would know that they were referring to getting guns away from criminals- which is pretty much a nationwide concern. They also support a ban on assault weapons.

But that's not as interesting as remarks taken out of context, is it?

"When will there be an arrest

"When will there be an arrest in this case?"

Well, personally, if I wanted the answer to a question like that, I'd call the police department. But that's just me.

However, if it's been 3 months and there's no arrest, then I'm guessing that there isn't enough evidence to prosecute.

If it were me, and that was my mother, I'd sue in small-claims court to recover the money- if I had definite proof, that is.

Simple, isn't it?

Protect ALL Rights

Corgimom, I’m not familiar with the case, but what most concerns me is infringement of a constitutional right. Sure everyone can say what they want because that’s a constitutional right, too. But specifically, to the point we have to be careful not to go overboard when doing background checks and other various screening methods before allowing someone to purchase a gun. No one wants criminals to have guns, but at the same time we can’t inconvenience law abiding citizens and infringe on their rights. As far as states or cities passing gun control laws or outright banning them, why isn’t that flat out unconstitutional? Could a city ban other rights?

Crime Downtown Business District

Interesting number in the article about crime in the downtown business district. There were 1,400 reports to the sheriff’s office of crimes and other incidents from January of last year. That’s about 3 calls a day that resulted in reports being written in that relatively small area.

Think about it corgi

When you say this..

WHEN does a criminal give a rats behind about a gun law? They won't give them up & they will always have them......WE will suffer from the laws.....the only protection an older person has is the gun...they sure can't fight off a metal bat swinging thug.

J.B. Fuqua

Augusta can thank its lucky stars that JB Fuqua was friends with Pres. Kennedy. JB was a big Democrat supporter. Ft. Gordon had been SELECTED to close, but Fuqua flew to Washington and pled our case to Kennedy. Kennedy smiled at him and finally said okay...keep it open.

No, it's time to do something to get the Food Stamp program under control and ensure taxpayer subsidies only go to the truly needy.

It's got nothing to do with obesity. It's all about the hypocrisy of the "helping the needy" lie we have been told for decades.

"and states are allowed to

"and states are allowed to pass gun control laws- you know, like the Constitution says."

And the courts have said there are limits on the restrictions states can pass. I would venture to say "confiscate" would be one of those limits that violate the 2nd Amendment. ALL states already have laws that allow them to seize weapons from criminals. No new laws are needed for that. When those state senators use the word "confiscate" they are NOT merely talking about taking guns from criminals.

Sadly

Corgimom is partially correct: states are allowed to pass gun control laws. But Corgimom is incorrect when she adds, “. . . like the Constitution says.” Yes, states are allowed to pass gun control laws, but such laws are unconstitutional. They are allowed to pass them because we citizens sit back and allow it. We sit back and take the abuse.

Nobody Wants to See Anyone Starve

You need an impetus to make people work. You just can't give people enough food to live comfortably for free. That just ruins ambition. EBT cards should be done away with and only beans, grits, cheese, butter, fatback, milk and collard greens given out to the needy. You have to create the conditions that encourage people to pay their own way.

Safe Downtown

Countyman was nice enough to break the stats down for us. It seems there were 15 crimes per month in the CBD, which includes the riverwalk. That breaks down to 1 every other day. So it's simple folks. If you are planning on going downtown check the sheriffs blotter. If there was a crime committed yesterday, go ahead and enjoy. If not, wait until tomorrow.
