GOD IS PUNISHING this country. We need to repent.

I WAS ENCOURAGED THAT the South Augusta Pastors Alliance was supporting the Day of Prayer. They have been silent on Obama’s abortion issues. They also have been silent on increased crime in south Augusta.

DOES ROUNDTREE have a valid driver’s license? He needs to put that chauffeur to work on Bobby Jones and he needs to drive himself. Having a chauffeur is just showing off.

WHEN ARE THE police going to police Dogwood Terrace and the southside?

SOMEONE NEEDS TO look into the North Augusta Chamber of Commerce. What a shame for such a fine organization, and no one is doing anything about it.

THANK YOU TO THE PERSON who found the money order for me in the Walmart on Deans Bridge Road. There are honorable people in the world. I sure appreciate it. God bless you.

NEW CARS SHOWN on TV are going down the road but the tires and wheels are always running backwards. How is this possible? Does anybody know?

WE HAVE CONDOMS, birth control pills, IUD’s, morning-after pills, etc. etc. What justifiable reason can anyone have for supporting late-term abortions? Why are some liberal women’s groups fighting for the right for abortions as far out as 8 months?

RECEIVED AN invitation to attend the graduation of a nursing student friend from GRU. The invitation has GRU -- Georgia Regents University. WHERE IS THE AUGUSTA? The A has NOT been saved!

LET’S MAKE SURE TO ban the mother of the surviving terrorist. And investigate the other relatives, even the uncle who spoke out against the Boston Marathon massacre. Let’s not let any of the family members get citizenship to start another killing spree.

BRAVO TO THE TAX OFFICE for more aggressively collecting the huge taxes owed!

LAST WEEK IT WAS the lady in the van letting her child run alongside. This week I saw a man and woman on bicycles on Wheeler Road, and the woman was balancing her child on her seat in front of her. At least they had helmets on while they rode in busy traffic!

NA Chamber of Commerce

In reference to the comment above regarding the NA Chamber of Commerce, everyone needs to look into the NA Chamber of Commerce! As an active member, I've seen a lot of positive change in the Organization over the recent months! If you aren't participating, you should be!

Police spread too thin

The Governor and MADD want them running dragnets. People in the Southside want patrols. People are getting mugged downtown and brawls go on for minutes.

A huge rant to the city/county fathers who find plenty of money for cherry picked raises, useless study after useless study, money for pet projects, money to subsidize one of the wealthiest people in the area; but no money to expand the sheriff's department so citizens and visitors feel safe in their neighborhoods and public places.

I never claimed to be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I can tell you this: All of the money for Tee Centers, Laney Walker development, sweet raises, etc. won't mean a darned thing if people don't feel safe going downtown.

A good start would be a hard-nosed anti-loitering ordinance that gives officers a tool to use in moving people along that are "just hanging out". The last two times my wife and I went to the Imperial we encountered nasty urban outdoorsmen, one in the parking pit, begging money. I didn't fear him, but it sure left a sour taste in my mouth. If he had been of a mind, he could have slipped a knife between someone's ribs and no one would have been the wiser since it was not visible from the sidewalk.

A lot of people won't go downtown at all; but if people like me start giving up on it, you can stick a fork in her and let the drunks and panhandlers have it.

Do something and QUICK.

Probably when the first resident steps up and cooperates with them. Or the second Thursday of next week- which may come first.

Is GOD Punishing our country?

We are likely at the point of apathy and dependence with too many only having a belief in Government.

Soon, likely, America will be in bondage and Praying for GOD deliverance.

Yeah, but as someone who can actually pay the fines, he doesn't want to get caught up in Rolling Thunder.

THE FEDERAL RANT OF THE

THE FEDERAL RANT OF THE DAY.

The IRS acknowledges IRS agents singled out dozens of organizations for additional reviews because they included the words "tea party" or "patriot" in their exemption applications. In some cases, groups were asked for lists of donors, which violates IRS policies & FEDERAL LAWs.

This information was then used to contact and intimidate those voter during the 2010 Election cycle.

The Federal Government, the administration and the IRS have violated 1/2 dozen Federal laws including the Civil Rights Voting act of 1964 for over 1.5Million US Citizens/Voters.

Will the Administration or IRS Agents go to jail like you and I would?

NO... They just issued an apology to vindicate themselves.

Consider for a second that no LIBERAL Spokesperson or Liberal media outlet is yelling from the rafters, Reverends protesting in the streets that the Voting Rights act has been violated and voters intimidated by a political party misusing federal agencies they have control over.

WHY?

I can only draw the conclusion,
it is because it is OK for Liberals to MISUSE & ABUSE Authority to insure they stay in power.

Bravo to the tax office

It`s a shame they do not go after the county commissioners who still owe back taxes. When they get called on thier not paying. They then set up a payment plan. So they can default on said plan. I say throw the bums in jail for the crimes they have committed against the citizens of Augusta-Richmond county. If they can`t manage thier own affairs. How will they manage our tax revenue. This has got to stop.

CBD=low crime

There's more private construction and people moving downtown than in DECADES... Some people don't give downtown the credit it deserves. The last shooting in the CBD was July of 2012, and the CBD had one homicide since the year 2011. The Central Business District has a very low crime rate. People get robbed and street fights happen all over the CSRA. Why are robberies/fights judged so differently because they happen downtown? The fight happen at 2:30 am downtown, and lasted two minutes. The TEE Center is bringing in thousands of new people which help increase the foot traffic. Additional foot traffic will always help deter crime. The TEE Center also helped attract the Holiday Inn Express(one less empty building/more people downtown), and the development at 901(residential/commercial) Broad for instance.

The hotel/motel tax paying for the Laney Walker development will DEFINITELY make the urban core safer. New residents, homes, parks, lower number of vacant homes, increased tax base, etc.

Darned if you do...

This will come across the wrong way, but so be it. I cruised downtown tonight with a friend, and the Operation Thunder folks had it blanketed. There were blue lights on Broad from 15th to 4th, on Reynolds, on Greene, and on cross streets. That and foot cops and other cars everywhere.

That is all well and good, but if this was a knee jerk in response to events of late, it was just stupid. If I were a visitor I would have assumed that downtown must be a war zone.

I had high hopes that Sheriff Roundtree would not be a mistake, but events of late give me doubt. The lack of information to the public about the carjacking, then the Riverwalk attack. Couple that with the apparent ignorance of the brawl that actually had an incident report, and you have to at least take a wide eyed look. Now we have what appeared to be a civil disturbance downtown and it makes you wonder if this cat knows what he is doing. That kind of policing is sophomoric.

Look Sheriff, the downtown situation is easy. Just put police out there in uniform and plain clothes to walk the streets and chase the neer do wells. They don't like that kind of heat. Heck, an eight grader should be able to figure that out.

Just four questions!!!

I would love to see plain clothes officers downtown, but the urban core needs at least two substations(Broad and the Medical District/Laney Walker). The same people are being charged with both the Riverwalk attack, and the carjacking. I've been trying to comment how violent crime is isolated, and having the same suspects proves it. The explanation related towards the fight over the girl proves it's not anything gang related or thugs just fighting each other like some people wanted it to be. I only have four questions to ask the people who believe downtown is not overall safe..

1. How can the Marriott be the most expensive hotel for miles either way between Columbia/Atlanta if downtown wasn't overall safe? Richmond County is not small either in terms of population, and has Sheraton/Hilton Garden Inn/Double Tree/Home2Suites by Hilton/Courtyard by Marriott in West Augusta.
2. How many cities the size of Augusta can attract IT jobs downtown(Rural Sourcing) compared to it's suburbs(i.e West Augusta)?
3. How many areas of the CSRA have the same amount of ongoing/recent private construction?(Whiskey Bar Kitchen, 901 Broad, Farmhaus Burgers/12 apts, 905 Broad aka former WAGT building(I think a new sports bar), Sprint Food & Metro Market, Holiday Inn Express, restaurant underway next to Farmhaus?. The CBD is very small in terms of land size which makes this even more impressive.
4. How many areas in the CSRA only have 1 homicide since 2011? Keep in mind the population of the CBD dramatically increases for the events, festivals, weekends, etc.

That July shooting downtown was a doozy

That July shooting downtown was a doozy though. Six people were shot on Broad St. on a First Friday.

Countyman asks, "How many areas in the CSRA only have 1 homicide since 2011?"

Answer: hundreds, if you think about it.

Countyman asks, "How can the Marriott be the most expensive hotel for miles either way between Columbia/Atlanta if downtown wasn't overall safe?"

Answer: Marriotts are always the most expensive hotels. The one downtown happens to be the ONLY full service Marriott between Columbia and Atlanta. Augusta happens to be the only large city between Columbia and Atlanta, too. It's not like people are pulling off of I-20 in order to go to the downtown Augusta Marriot where they will feel safe.

Countyman asks, "How many cities the size of Augusta can attract IT jobs downtown(Rural Sourcing) compared to it's suburbs(i.e West Augusta)?"

Answer: Don't know, but most IT jobs in the CSRA are at Ft. Gordon. Plus, their employees make about double what Rural Sourcing pays.

Richmond County part of Martinez

The Augusta-Richmond County part of Martinez is booming. That complex with all the hotels on Stevens Creek Rd. with all the spin-off businesses is amazing. All that done without taxpayers having to build any kind of public facility to attract them.

I also notice that complex of hotels hires a Richmond Cty deputy for security. I pass the patrol car parked at the entrance to the parking lot of all the hotels every morning. For the life of me, I can't understand why Augusta doesn't concentrate on helping that area more. That's the one showing the most promise.

Downtown Marriott

Countyman’s bringing up the Marriott downtown having the highest prices around reminds me of something.

Remember that same hotel was previously under another name. Why do you think the Marriott chain let them in? Do you think it had something to do with promises the TEE Center would be attached? The Marriott name is coveted and is difficult to earn. For another branded hotel to switch to them is unusual. See why the TEE construction was so rushed in the Chronicle editorials?

Let me also say I acknowledge the Chronicle separates itself from the business of the owning company in most cases. I appreciate them allowing me to point out the things I do even when it affects their parent company as this does. (Ha, can I suck up or what? I'm hoping THAT will let this comment slide.)

I think I can understand why they were doing that....the incident was a slap in the face to them....it was a horrific crime on innocent victims...on their watch.....they wanted to end it asap.....sooo I'm going to give them a pass on that..if you could have seen the cops in the neighborhood near us when the firemen were hostage...haa....it looked like all the police on the force were there...& you could see the relief & satisfaction on their faces when it was over...
It is personal to them....I have been married to that type man ......he would give his free time to work many many weekends.

Countyman - I actually support the Pro Augusta Comments

But from time to time I have to take some minor exceptions.

Regarding the four questions!!!

1. Why? Answer: Taxpayers have funded many of the Hotel TEA, Parking Deck and etc...improvements. NOT Private enterprise or the Private sector.

Augusta is again looking like a County Taxpayer funded Section 8 case.

2. IT jobs Answer: 1000's of Trained IT staff from Ft. Gordon personnel being discharged are a very viable resource to be tapped at a low p/hr cost.

3. I'll give you part of this one. Augusta, like most of America is recovering and building again. I actually look forward to the days when I read of GOOD things happening South of Bobby Jones Hwy. and NOT just in the usual North and West side areas. You do write about them from time to time and they are welcome news. Keep it up.

The problem with Augusta Job growth tends to be, the jobs are taken by Columbia Residents commuting to them, An the salt in the wound is we are improving the roads to help them in their commute.

4. But I'll grant you Downtown Broad St. IS NOT INFESTED. It even has a below normal amount of crime. But we do have a lack of visual Police presents on Broad Street. Adding a few Beat Cops using their feet, or IF they can find them, the already purchased Segway's.

Good Morning "Just One Question" America?

Definition of TRUTH
1
a: archaic: fidelity, constancy
b: sincerity in action, character, and utterance

2
a: (1): the state of being the case : fact (2): the body of real things, events, and facts : actuality (3)often capitalized: a transcendent fundamental or spiritual reality

b: a judgment, proposition, or idea that is true or accepted as true

c: the body of true statements and propositions

3
a: the property (as of a statement) of being in accord with fact or reality

b: chiefly British: true 2

c: fidelity to an original or to a standard
**************************************
We all know that Liberals will never accept the "Truth."

MY Question Is:
With all the violations of the US Constitution, The Transformation of America that has happened in the past almost 5 years, plus the worst - the murdering of 4 Americans......

Can any intelligent Liberal (if there is any), give just "One" reason why the King SMNCICBHO(M), the Hammer and Sickle man shouldn't be IMPEACHED?"

Spin

The Stevens Creek area of Richmond County near the hotels doesn't even have a Martinez address. There's not any new hotel under construction either similar to downtown. How is this related to the private construction downtown anyway?

Please name the hundreds of areas with 1 homicide since 2011? We do know that Martinez has around 2 to 3 which is more than the CBD.

What does IT jobs on Fort Gordon have to do with Rural Sourcing opening downtown?

The number one recommended hotel is the Marriott, and several hotels in the US are most expensive than Marriott's.

Safe in Awguster

If Awguster is so crime free, why do so many businesses pay off duty deputies to sit at the business. Most smart business people (see I can be PC. I didn't say businessMEN) won't spend money like that if it isn't needed.
