The news about Steinke was posted Monday afternoon on the Facebook site “Kenny’s Krew.”
The local BMX community and family of the 27-year-old Florida freestyler were praying feverishly that Steinke would recover from the fall he took April 27.
While attempting a trick known as the “Stripper,” Steinke pulled his right leg over his handlebars and leaned back.
Amateur video of the fall shows that he suddenly lost his footing and his bike went sprawling onto the concrete.
Steinke also broke two ribs and was diagnosed with pneumonia.
“The power of prayer is awesome,” family and friends posted on Facebook.
His wife, Ashley Steinke, could not be reached Monday. Danielle Harris, a spokeswoman for Georgia Regents Medical Center, where Steinke is receiving treatment, said the biker remains in critical condition.
A Paypal account has been set up to help with expenses that Steinke and his family will incur from the injury. Contributions can be made to Downsideupfmx@yahoo.com.
