Police give no update in toddler's death

  • Follow Metro

Columbia County investigators released no new information Saturday regarding the death of 2-year-old Sky Allen.

The toddler was found dead Thursday afternoon after the vehicle she was riding in left Ray Owens Road and struck a tree. Her mother, 27-year-old Marina Middlebrooks, was driving the vehicle and was airlifted to Georgia Regents Medical Center, where she was in stable condition.

Police said Sky was unrestrained in the front seat and refused to say Friday whether she died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

On Saturday, Columbia County sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris said it is uncertain when Middlebrooks will be released from the hospital.

some evidence to have a rumor going around that the infant was dead before the time of the crash. Sure would like to know what it was??

That's

always been the belief. An elaborate alibi. If it is true, give her the happy needle.

The death notice was in the paper version of the newspaper. Something wrong with the online obituary section? I tried the obit search engine and the regular search engine.

Our Obituaries Department gave this response:

All that was submitted by the funeral home for Sunday’s paper was a free listing for the “ARRANGEMENTS INCOMPLETE” column on the obituary page: “Sky Lyric Allen, Augusta, Ga., died Thursday. Williams Funeral Home.”. This is all that was submitted and that does not go online.

Why?

Why on earth would she be driving around with the corpse of her two-year old in the front seat with her? That's just beyond creepy. And if she was, how did the child die in the first place? Why wouldn't she just call 911? None of this makes any sense.
