Two Augusta women jumped out the second-floor window of a McCauley Street home Sunday morning to escape a burglar, Richmond County sheriff’s deputies reported.

Two women asleep upstairs about 5:15 a.m. in the 1500 block of McCauley St. were woken to the sound of glass breaking on the first floor, according to an incident report.

A tall suspect wearing dark clothing then opened the door to their bedroom, the women said. When he closed the door, the women jumped from a window and ran for help.

Deputies arrived a short time later and heard movement on the second floor.

When they went upstairs, the burglar jumped out the same window and ran.

MORE POINTS THAN YOU

Burglar gets up awfully early in the morning! Maybe he could turn this habit into a real job.

Question?

"Deputies arrived a short time later and heard movement on the second floor.

When they went upstairs, the burglar jumped out the same window and ran."

Women Jumps, Burglar Jumps.......was the Deputies afraid to jump and chase?

If any of the three women in

If any of the three women in my family had heard glass breaking; the burglar would have gotten lead poisoning as soon as he opened the bedroom door.

If you think the burglar is

If you think the burglar is still in the house, isn't it customary to call for backup and have a couple of cops watch the outside while the others clear the house? A missed opportunity to take another scumbag off of the streets.

Have to side with

... the deputies on this one, CG. Even if they wanted to give chase, as a former paratrooper I know what it's like to jump loaded down with equipment --in the case of the deputies I see every day, that includes a sidearm, extra magazines, handcuffs, second set of handcuffs, pepperspray, radio, 'nuther radio, baton of some sort; all that and even a Taser, everything precariously attached to a three inch waist belt-- wearing a protective vest with insert out a second story window?

No thanks, I'll take the stairs.

I agree with DStewart and Dichotomy

Wish they'd caught this piece of garbage and put his rear end away for a very long time. Also very glad the ladies were not hurt.

It WOULD be nice...

if burglars got jail time or some punishment for their crimes. Of course punishment IS a bit harsh though. He'd probably get probation and a pat on the back if caught.

"Or is it open season for burglaries?"

Should be open season on burglars!!

Obviously there are far too few weapons in far to few homes around here. Need to work on that.
