Phinizy Swamp Nature Park will celebrate Earth Day on Saturday with a 5K run/walk and a daylong series of family friendly events.

The 12th annual Swamp Stomp 5K will begin with registration and packet pickups from 7 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. at the park’s Pfizer Pavilion, followed by the 8 a.m. run/walk along a course that includes the nature park’s woods and wetlands.

Race-day registration for the 5K is $25, or $20 without the race T-shirt. Details are available online at www.active.com.

The race/walk will be followed by a series of free programs and activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., including educational workshops and exhibits, a photography contest, entertainment, food and eco-friendly vendors.

The park is located off Lock and Dam Road, off Doug Barnard Parkway near Augusta Regional Airport. For more information, call (706) 828-2109.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Southeastern Natural Sciences Academy and its education, outreach and research programs.
