The lights were coming back on Friday afternoon at Fort Gordon after a power outage that initially affected about 80 percent of the post.

Fort Gordon Spokesman Buz Yarnell said the outage occurred about 10:30 a.m. All nonessential personnel were released at 1 p.m.

A Georgia Power spokeswoman said the outage was a result of equipment issues. More than 60 percent of the post had its power back by the afternoon.

Are you kidding me? I find this very hard to fathom.

Mr. Thackeray,

Is it so difficult to fathom? In 2009, a squirrel nesting in a transformer knocked out power to part of the base, too! :P I'm glad they're working on restoring power, though. It is a huge outage. http://www.fortgordonsignal.com/news/2009-09-18/News_Update/Squirrel_cau...

The essential departments on

The essential departments on base have backup generators so while commercial power is out, they can still function.

I was there this morning...

Left Eisenhower and everything was fine. Wife and I decided to run by Huddle House for a late breakfast. No traffic lights. Naive me, thought that maybe it was a training exercise in traffic control with all the manpower they had out there.

Got to Huddle House only to find that the lights were out there too and of course, that meant no service.

Came back to Augusta for breakfast which by that time had become lunch.

I'm sure it's all back to normal by now.
