GREENVILLE, S.C. — Authorities say a 3-year-old girl has died after she was run over by an abandoned car.

Greenville County deputy coroner Jeff Fowler says Jashay Dodd and another girl were playing Sunday afternoon in an unoccupied sedan that was parked at an apartment complex.

Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Brent Kelly says the girls got out of the car when it slipped out of gear and began rolling backward. Kelly says Jashay was knocked to the ground by an open car door, then run over.

The girl died at a hospital, and an autopsy was scheduled for Monday.

The Highway Patrol is investigating, but no charges have been filed.
