Rants & Raves

MANY THANKS TO the kind, patriotic gentleman who paid for a meal for a Purple Heart World War II veteran and his wife at Five Guys and Fries last month. He admired my World War II cap with its insignia and said, “You don’t see many World War II veterans anymore.” Kind sir, we are honored by your thoughtfulness and really enjoyed the meal.

RAVE TO THE deputies that came by to check on my parents’ home. They were professional and responded quickly. Great job!

SO THE MILLS will expand and the arts part will move downtown to a riverfront campus … and when are the hard-working employees who have been without raises but increased health care costs going to finally get a decent raise that covers at least the losses?

IT’S TRULY PATHETIC how many dishonest people we have working in prisons. Either they need to be more alert in background checks or see what it is about the prison that’s teaching the workers to ignore the laws in favor of making monies from prisoners to smuggle cellphones, drugs, etc.

PEOPLE, IF YOU are unhappy with your jobs, go get another one. I’m tired of all these front office people who just complain to all the people like me who walk in to do business. We are not professional, free psychiatrists who can just take your yapping about things we have no control over like your pay. Otherwise, based on the experience I see of you for thankfully just a few short minutes, I’d drop your pay.

IN ANOTHER (and saner) time, the Greenbrier 18 would have been turned over to their coaches for some long distance (several hundred laps worth) discipline. This would have encouraged these students to think about the consequences for their error in judgment – without treating them as if they had robbed a bank. As is, once again, the heavy hand of zero tolerance in Columbia County schools overkills again.

TO THE GRAY Honda with Georgia plates on Mike Padgett Highway speeding and smoking pot: Slow down and stay off the roads intoxicated. You’re going to get someone killed.

IT IS GOOD to see several uniformed officers walking about Augusta Mall. And that they caught at least one of those girls who beat on another girl in front of Forever 21 at Augusta Mall.

Surely you jest

We don't have sanity in the school system anymore...it is either overkill or underkill...imo

Sanity

The current trend in business as well as schools seems to be if a flyswatter is called for pull out a cannon! Overkill has become the way. Just look at everything!! The best punishment would have been to run 20 laps the very next morning.

“You don’t see many World War II veterans anymore.”

Speaking of caps.....have you ever known anyone who just can't lose a cap...well I'm married to one like that....again this week a waitress ran out of the restaurant to track him down & give him his Bass Pro cap ....he is the luckiest guy I have ever known about that.....sweaters--caps--keys--doesn't matter what he leaves behind......I should have known this.....some folks just need help keeping up with their stuff....strangers recognize that almost immediately...he says women are just attracted to him...heh heh--(yeh-right)

A feel good story

We are all connected in some way....
.

A female humpback whale had become entangled in a spider web of crab traps and lines. She was weighted down by hundreds of pounds of traps that caused her to struggle to stay afloat. She also had hundreds of yards of line rope wrapped around her body, her tail, her torso, a line tugging in her mouth.

This is her story of giving gratitude.

A fisherman spotted her just east of the Faralon Islands (outside the Golden Gate) and radioed for help. Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined that she was so badly off, the only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her…. a very dangerous proposition.

One slap of the tail could kill a rescuer.

They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her.

When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles. She then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, nudged them, and pushed gently, thanking them. Some said it was the most incredibly beautiful experience of their lives.

The guy who cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was following him the whole time, and he will never be the same.

May you be so fortunate …

To be surrounded by people who will help you get untangled from the things that are binding you.

And, may you always know the joy of giving and receiving gratitude.

see yall later

Greenbrier 18 violated the LAW

Underage drinking is a serious problem.
Kids that start drinking early tend to be heavy drinkers later in life. Heavy drinking tends to result in DUI, accidents, injuries and broken marriages.

OK they normally are good little prima donna Jocks from a well off area. But the LAW is the LAW, EQUAL application of the law is 1st rule of society.

How many times in the last 2 years have we read where underage students were in accidents. Or some one was killed where underage drinking was involved?

Also there seems to be a side to this story that I have not seen, or missed.

Where did they get the Alcohol and is that ADULT(s) being charged for selling it, providing it or failing to secure it?

I'm a VietNam vet....

but I think no one deserves more respect than those guys from WWII. They were certainly "The Greatest Generation".

Those of us who followed may have worked and sacrificed to keep America safe, those folks actually SAVED America. I'm proud to count my own father among them.

He's gone now, and so unfortunately are most of the sixteen million who came home.
