Comments from readers:

I BELIEVE IN same-sex marriage. I believe people should have sex with the same person they married and no one else.

I HAVE NEVER registered to vote because I understood that it would open me to jury duty. Now with the rule changes last year, I received a jury duty notice. I will still never register to vote. So take that, you Republicans.

THAT LAWYER DID commit a wrong by holding on to such an expensive item. Just turn it on in to the sheriff’s office!

RICARDO AZZIZ, please go away. And don’t come back another day. You’ve taken our colleges and changed the names. And now their merits hang on your wall of fame. And say, can‘t you see? Augusta is not your place to be?

IF THE GREENJACKETS have been so successful in Augusta, why do they need to move from Augusta? I am a North Augustan who does not want the GreenJackets on our side of the river.

THE LOCAL STADIUM situation cannot be compared to what’s in Atlanta. Our Lake Olmstead Stadium is fine for what’s here. I can see why North Augusta and Aiken do not have the millions to front a huge percentage of the cost, just like Augusta cannot afford that. Besides, I think it’s a nice kick for those poor folks living near Lake Olmstead to see free fireworks.

IT’S A SHAME THE former military teacher got only probation and a wee fine for having sex with someone who’s a student and under 18. It’s bad enough in other countries when parents marry off a daughter extra young to someone.

THE LOVE OF SPORTS means that 18 young men/older boys should not be punished for illegally partaking of liquor far from home? Where are your values, people?

THE WAR IN IRAQ made a lot of insider Republicans and conservatives rich. It is estimated that more than 250,000 Iraq civilians have been killed. Do conservatives have no shame?

EVERYTHING I READ IN the paper always says GRU; you never put the “A” on the end. Why?

I AM A NATURALIZED American citizen, and even I know that President Obama does not have the authority to close the White House. It comes under parks. For that person who wants to blame the president for something that he has nothing to do with, you need to get acquainted with how things are run in your nation.

R and R's

My reply to a few rants:

Committing a wrong and committing a crime are two different things.

Lake Olmstead Stadium is great and the Georgia Dome is, too. It’s hard to understand why it’s okay to spend huge amounts for stadiums in these tough times.

Saddam Hussein would kill 250,000 people to celebrate his sister’s birthday.

I'm not impressed

It seems that the Emperor is going to give 5% ($20,000) of his pay back to the treasury. Isn't he the one who keeps saying the rich should pay their fair share? I don't know about you but I would classify $400,000 per year as rich

Let's analyze a little further. I make about $60,000 per year. Out of this I must pay all of my living expenses. The Emperor stays in a rent/mortgage free house. All of his utilities are paid for him. Transportation for him and his family is paid.

Mr Emperor, you want to impress me? Give $340,000 back to the treasury and live on the $60,000 like I do. BTW, you have to give up the free housing, pay your own utilities, and buy your own groceries.

If you refuse to register to vote please do me a favor... shut the heck up. When you give up the right to vote you also give up the right to complain. Just my opinion so go ahead and start the bashing, I can take it.

I don't give a lot of thought to same sex marriage. I do though think about the confused little ones who are made a part of the "family".

Not guilty

So. Let me get this straight. You can take a life of a human being and fully torture them to the point of non recognition and plead not guilty. When judgement is handed down and the death penalty is declined by the prosecutor. Why should I have to furnish their comfort and meals when families are suffering from their loss. Meals and medical necessities for life in prison. How much sense does that make. Just give the criminals a better place to live and a promised meal three times a day. That will keep everything in business. NO FORECLOSURES IN CRIME. 0.00% interest rate for your life term. OMG Ridiculous.

Obama gives 5% back

What about the folks at SRS who are giving up 20% because of the government screw up. Those that caused this should have to do the same including the man in the white house.

By the numbers

#1. agreed been married almost 40 years and looking forward to more.☺☺

#2. Thank you for reducing the Democrat voting numbers.☺☺

#3. Yep! a clear violation of GA Law, not matter how she wants to hide behind a Race Card.☻/☻

#4. Waiting for a New Governor, as pointed out by another commenter seems the only political ave. open at this time. ☺

#5. The reason was a chance to rake in Taxpayer money and get the Taxpayers to purchase some downtown land at inflated costs was the motivation. ☻/☺

#6.Sometimes logic does kick in and it stops stupid ideas and NEW TAXES.☺

#7.We will never know all the facts but I agree justice has not been applied equally.☻

#8. The Law wasn't written by Jocks for Jocks. But again some logic needs to be applied including expected Role Model MORAL Conduct. ☻

#9. TYPO corrected Delete Republicans and conservatives and insert politicians on both sides. Or did everyone forget the 95% YES vote by congress to start the 911 war on terror?☻

#10. GRU - Many understand the Game that has been played concerning GRU and the profits and power collected Wagging the Dog for show.☻

#11. Everything about these budget cuts was design for media attention and political gain. The problem is it BACKFIRED on the Democrats, when they focused only on maximizing Personal Level Disruptions instead of Governmental cutbacks even Low Information Voters caught on to the game. If the government is hurting for $$$ why is Nancy P. and other top Politicians still flying home every weekend to California on Taxpayer Rented JETS?☻

A RANT TO A NIGHT STOCK PERSON

We felt the Store Mgr. at a major Sporting Goods store in Evans might be interested to know.

Many of us get up in the wee hours to get in line 4 nights a week
to purchase ammo, not knowing what is available. Some of us drive in from 75 miles out in hopes of purchasing certain hard to find calibers thanks to The Fed's buying it up to keep it in short supply.

But it became clear that one of night stockers is calling his buddies to have them show up in family droves to get in line only when bulk lots were in stock.

All we ask is a fair process and EVERYBODY to wait their turn without advance inventory info.

A little clarification

I am not one of the wealth envy people. But when a man, in this case the Emperor, makes a show of giving a miniscule amount back you have to wonder what his real motive is. The Emperor has no expenses except for maybe his wardrobe. I wonder if he even thought about the American citizens who are trying to live on $20,000 per year. Just think, we have posters here who give 10% to their church and don't brag about it. (Please save the religion comments, I am just making a point) The thing is these people do it out of love and concern for their fellow man. Not to make a show to try to help with their political status.

Dr. Azziz and GRU

People will continue to complain about this man and his stlye of leadership. The locals want him removed from his position head of GRU because they think they know what is best for the school. That is the problem around Augusta, everyone thinks they know how to fix everything. People talk about how Augusta is declining and will never amount to anything yet they sit on their behinds and do nothing. Augusta needs leaders that are agressive forward thinkers. Dr. Azziz while hated by many is doing what needs to be done to turn a good university into a top university. Hate him or love him, the man has the backing from the governor and Board of Regents, and all those recents millions of dollars in new proposed projects to show for.

Just like some citizens in Atlanta are opposed to the new Falcons stadium deal, get over it, what's done is done. All you can do is make the best of it.

To the person.......

......who just posted about his never having registered to vote: It's a fundamental right and responsibility of citizens to vote. Not voting is hurting only you. Look at some of the clowns we have in local office. Your vote might have been the one that kept them out.
And since you don't exercise your right to vote, you also lose the right to complain about what the politicians are doing. No vote-no complaint.

Conflict of Interest?

Apparently there are rules for Richmond County police and fire department public safety officers and businesses they may run on the side. Any potential conflict of interest is not allowed. We all know a private company formed by Tommy Willis, a ranking officer in the Fire Dept., to secure structures after fires led to the resignation of Chief Howard Willis, Tommy Willis and two other chief deputies. Understand we are not talking about fire fighters or police officers working off duty special jobs, but businesses that are run by ranking officers that have POTENTIAL conflict.

Recently Columbia County has been considering the security of their schools. It was discussed by some behind the scenes whether to have the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office come up with security plans or bring in outside, paid consultants. To my surprise it was reported in the Columbia County News Times one of the security companies mentioned as possibly being able to provide such plans is owned by Richmond Cty Sheriff’s Office, Major Scott Peebles.

I’d be curious if he solicits for business in Richmond County? If so that leads to conflicts of interest with the RCSO in my opinion. What if a business or other government entity asks the RCSO for security surveys and suggestions? Will the advice be provided by the RCSO for free or will they be referred to the private company? Can we ensure information will not be given to Peebles’ company for him to make contact, thus creating an unfair advantage for him v. other private companies?

It appears a very similar arrangement led to the Fire Dept. turmoil and resignations. I suggest Sheriff Roundtree address this issue.

"THE WAR IN IRAQ made a lot of insider Republicans and conservatives rich."

That is about the most ridiculous statement I've seen lately. Do you have ANY facts and figures to back that up? I didn't think so.

I'll tell you a FACT. A lot of Democrat insiders got rich off of Obama's GREEN ENERGY free taxpayer money giveaway to Democrat contributors.

Welcome to America. You should try digging into the facts a little deeper. It was the Secret Service Protective Division, so Obama claimed, that closed the tours to the White House. They take their orders from Obama on all matters concerning the White House and they will do NOTHING that affects the publicity about the White House without consulting the president FIRST.

Carter is back.

Only 88,000 new jobs created last month. The economists were expecting 200,000. And so many people quit looking for work that the unemployment number went down another tenth of a percent. Only 63.6% of eligible Americans are in the workforce. An awful number not seen since the days of Jimmy Carter. HORRIBLE numbers. So, not only are 47% of the people not paying any federal income taxes, 37% of them are NOT EVEN BEING COUNTED IN THE LABOR PARTICIPATION RATE. The effects of tax increases and the cost of Obamacare are beginning to show.

Over 8.8 million people on Social Security disability. ANOTHER number not seen since the Jimmy Carter administration. Jimmy's 14.8% inflation rate, or worse, to follow shortly if we keep printing worthless money AND Jimmy's 18% interest rate as soon as we quit printing worthless money. The inflation rate is already climbing but it just isn't showing up in the official numbers because it's the price of food and gasoline skyrocketing and those numbers aren't part of the inflation index. If food and gasoline were calculated as part of core inflation we already have about a 10% inflation rate. Obama's economic policies and Obama's FED chairman have gotten us to the proverbial rock and a hard spot.

Obama's economic policies and Obamacare are having disastrous effects and they are starting to show......as many of us knew they would. Bless those of you who are still working and paying taxes. I don't know how much longer you can hold up without being crushed by Mr. Redistribution, Mrs. We Have To Pass The Bill To Find Out What's In It, and Harry the We Ain't Voting On Anything Because We Might Lose.

What's really funny is that the only people doing okay are those "rich" corporations and people in the stock market because American businesses have figured out how to be more profitable by cutting their workforce. Even small business are avoiding Obamacare by staying below 50 employees and cutting work hours of existing employees to under 32 per week. I guess the Democrats really showed them huh?

Charleston South Carolina....

Doctors at the Charleston Cancer Center in South Carolina began informing patients weeks ago that, due to the sequester cuts, they would soon need to seek treatment elsewhere.

“We don’t sugar-coat things, we’re cancer doctors,” Charles Holladay, a doctor at the clinic, said. “We tell them that if we don’t go this course, it’s just a matter of time before we go out of business.”

@nonoc regarding the ammo.

It seems the old saying "it's not what you know but who you know" is alive and well at the ammo store. Hope you are successful in getting some!

@Seenit and others; regarding the Duck Dynasty last installment. I thought the Miss Kay bowling storyline outranked the Bass Pro Shop storyline 10 ton1. Willie and his picture idea seemed lame.!

@Riverman1, I too read that "opinion" in the News Times and the idea of hiring a consultant to look at school safety seemed overkill. There are plenty of law enforcement types already on the peoples payroll. If the CCBOE takes the suggestion offered by the News Times they need to look no farther than the CCSO. At least that would be the place to start!
