Augusta traffic information can now be accessed via social media platforms.
Augusta Traffic Engineering launched Facebook and Twitter accounts last week that will post up-to-date traffic data, construction information and incident reports.
Most updates will concern lane and road closures for construction work, similar to releases that news outlets receive, traffic engineer Steve Cassell said. Some of the updates will be live information for major wrecks and emergency road work.
Cassell said drivers should check it before starting their commute, and not on cellphones while driving.
“The hope is that it will be the type of information you can use before you leave,” Cassell said.
During Masters Week, the traffic engineering department will send reminders to its social media followers about lane and ramp closures.
The city already reports traffic conditions on its Web sites where users can view live traffic cameras.
