Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

I AM SICK AND TIRED of conspiracy theorists on the Internet who are constantly denigrating the fine, upstanding civic leaders of Augusta and calling them members of some shadowy cabal. These people have been watching too many Oliver Stone movies and need to get a life.

WE NEED A SPECIAL ASU History Day. Let’s make it during that alumni weekend in April, say that Friday. That will really draw attention to the history of ASU and GRU while appealing to the alumni of both universities.

WEIGHT GAIN? Yes, we are doing less strenuous work now than the days of our parents or even grandparents. People seem to like to spend way too much time sitting down to beep on their phone devices or to move switches on consoles or computer keyboards. People now can even have others do their food shopping and preparation all the time if they wish to pay for that. Such a shame.

THE CHILDREN’S Hospital of Georgia is so management-heavy that they do not have the staff nurses for patient care.

REPUBLICANS PROPOSE cutting spending to reduce the debt and balance the budget. Democrats propose adding taxes. Why not use the media (Internet, newspaper, etc.) to present a comparison in plain English of all proposals and let the American taxpayers/voter decide?

RANTS TO THE PERSON or persons who stole the gate from the cemetery at Marvin United Methodist Church. Did you really need it that badly? You had to stoop mighty low to do something like this. I have family members buried at this cemetery. Maybe someone will notice that you have a new gate up which does not look totally new in appearance and will notify authorities. If you have a conscience, it should be bothering you.

COMMISSIONER ALVIN Mason’s statement that he will divide the county spending into two categories by making a list of the items we must have – “needs” – versus a list of items we don’t need – “wants.” All of our commissioners must join him by making their own lists so that the items we do not need get removed from future spending. Mason is being proactive and must be commended.

SHERIFF ROUNDTREE, since you got your raise, how about your deputies? Fair is fair. They deserve a raise.

Hmm....

..."fine upstanding citizens".....You mean the ones who have been feeding from the public trough at the expense of everyone else for generations?......
Question: How can it be a "conspiracy theory" when it's working as planned? ...More like a conspiracy reality...

Speaking of ASU/GRU--I keep getting phone calls from individuals at the school asking for funds for the Alumni Association.
Here's my advice--go ask Dr. Azziz to donate some of his ridiculously exorbitant salary to you guys and leave us working people alone. Whoever set his salary was absolutely INSANE. Lord knows he has plenty he's taking while the college suffers.

The conspiracy theorists on the Internet

Yes some are nut jobs, but some do their homework and have facts that scare the devil out of powerful people.

How ever you slice it the comments accurately reflect the depth of distrust many have in Government and the behind the scenes power brokers.

This comment would exceed several pages to the list the times that conspiracy theorists/bloggers have caught JUST the Local government lying to the citizens in the last 10 years.

With one of the biggest lies being "Consolidation will save taxpayers money". When in fact was nothing more than a power play for Federal $$$ & to save downtown.

Or do you believe Parking Decks accidentally float off paper, University's get named based on surveys and Baseball Stadium land just happens to be owned by only certain downtown people, or Atlanta Students improved 20 points on their Ga school Tests in 1 year?

Besides when the Media is owned by those involved what other course do they have?

Just A Quick Good Morning America

Yes. Thanks to B4, Rm, nocnoc and so many more excellent True Americans commentators that daily provide the accurate fact to the so many intelligence, uninformed bashers that provide nothing but a point with their downers. That is the only fact they can present.

On the way to an 8 AM Ultrasound of my neck. Maybe they will find out the reason why I love the Hammer & Sickle Man so much.

Just remember all, I'sa always a monitoring, have a good Sean day.

Fondling

Gee, sure glad there were no cameras in the locker rooms back in my schools days. Bring back the times so many of us nice students use to give the sweet one with 36's our lunch money to just do the fondling thing.

Maybe that is the reason I never gained weight.

Gotta Go

Legislature deepens divide over county

We have a battle of sorts going on in the Fulton county government...it seems they can't see eye to eye on anything...Reps in the north side & Dems in the south....why they can't just make the north another county I'll never know.....it would be so much easier for all.
Some of my real estate friends tell me what a hassle it is to deal with offices in south Fulton......maybe one day a new county will happen.

My son has to deal with the administrative side of the court system of Fulton and Dekalb with some frequency. He says the sloth and incompetence are palpable. It takes him at least twice as much time and effort to get the same things done than it does in other surrounding counties.

Augusta= hotspot for creative class

Information on the 'Mills Campus' and 'Downtown Cultural Campus'... Many people didn't get the chance to view the entire proposal. The most interesting is the 'Downtown Cultural Campus' site plan.

http://aug-cdn.com/sites/default/files/Mills%20Proposal.pdf

1. A Civic Park is proposed for the GGHF site(depending on North Augusta)... The location is next to the Riverwalk, and the Falls Park in Greenville attracts tons of people.
http://www.fallspark.com/
2. The performing arts center(city undergoing $100 million arts campaign) is on the former Watermark site.
3. The mentioning of Artspace(renovated building more than likely), and the Nederlander organization under the Performing Arts Center investments.
http://www.artspace.org/
http://www.nederlander.com/

The Artspace project can offer space for musicians, painters, ballet dancers, mixed media, photographers, etc. The performing arts center, Artspace building, Imperial/Miller theatres, Artist Row, and the Westobou/Arts in the Heart festivals working together will drastically change the local arts community.

Click on third interview(Wendy Holmes) to hear the Artspace interview(6:35).

''So the Watermark Hotel is officially dead. A good thing we hurried up and approved the TEE Center so it could be built.''

Riverman... I know how you love to hype up Columbia County, and take daily shots at Richmond County. I knew my positive information before long would attract the same few people to respond.

You're obviously confusing the Hyatt Place hotel proposed on the former jail(9th/Reynolds) with the Watermark property(6th/Reynolds). The Watermark development has been dead since 2009(casualty of the recession), and included condos/hotels/office space/renovated train depot.

I'm glad we did approve the TEE Center to start construction. The $8 million Holiday Inn Express, purchasing of the old WAGT building, 901 Broad residential/commercial, etc are the results.

Oh, it was the Hyatt Place

Oh, it was the Hyatt Place Hotel, along WITH the Watermark that wasn't built. Thanks for reminding me. Come to think of it, they were promising TWO hotels would be built at the Watermark site, in addition to the Hyatt site. We were told to hurry up and approve the TEE and THREE hotels would be built. How naive we were.
