Rants & Raves

YOU THINK THE new pope will ask for a pay raise after 30 days on the job?

SINCE IT’S JUNK MAIL and tax, utility and credit card bills, three day per week mail delivery would be perfect.

SEEMS TO ME THE wrong university president left town. I bet Dr. Shirley Kenney would have done a wonderful job in reviewing and taking the correct necessary actions regarding the merger of MGC and ASU. As a former student at Augusta College, GRU does not exist in my mind.

MOTORCYCLES should be outlawed in neighborhoods where there are children and older people. They don’t need to hear these motorcycles.

THE ST. PATRICK’S DAY parade was great, but the people with dogs pooping everywhere should not have been allowed.

MY EARS, NOSE, throat and eyes know it is spring even if the thermometer doesn’t!

ROMNEY WAS RIGHT – 47 percent of the people think they are victims and are dependent on the government. They live in Augusta.

RANTS FOR THE men loudly socializing and the beeping cell phone at church.

WHY IS IT SO important to put an overpass at the Convention Center instead of a crosswalk? There are lots of busy places that have crosswalks. Put the money where it is needed.

I WONDER IF Pope Francis defines “poor” like we do in the US: big flat screen TVs, free housing, food stamps, welfare, free education and free health care. Somehow I don’t think this is exactly the cause he is championing.

IF GOVERNMENT CAN redefine historically clear words like “marriage” government can redefine anything. Sunshine can be rain and love can be hate. Then what?!

GOOD LEADERS should take care of their people. If you take care of yourself but not your people, then you will have problems.

WHAT RIGHT DOES Shirley Strum Kenny have to tell Azziz what to do? She was only there about a month. What does she know?

I’M SO HAPPY for the selection of the pope. I’m Messianic, but I think this pope is for the people. He understands the poor. It’s just wonderful.

"WHY IS IT SO important

... to put an overpass ... instead of a crosswalk?"

Two grand for contractors for a crosswalk a quarter-million for an overpass. Follow the money is the prime directive in politics.

I WONDER IF Pope Francis defines “poor”

... like we do.

I know the poster is being facetious, but Pope Francis served in Brazil- a country with third-world poverty so fierce if most "poor" Americans actually witnessed it, they'd start singing the 'Star Spangled Banner." Unlike those who served in that office for the last few centuries, he actually knows what's happening in the real world.

"What Does She Know"

About Dr. Shirley Strum Kenny, she has been a college president for about 30 years and has several honorary degrees. She has taught at 3 universities and was provost of the College of Arts and Humanities at the University of Maryland. She has published scholarly books and numerous articles. Get the idea?

Mail delivery 5 days a week

Mail delivery 5 days a week is just fine. All of the crying and knashing of teeth is about job protection and overtime.

The sheriff's dept is but a phone call away. If they are violating noise ordinances, the sheriff's dept will help you.

Good leaders

Good leaders "taking care of their people" implies Robin Hood principles.

I believe I understand your implication; but I would rather say that "good leaders help create an atmosphere where people that want to can take care of themselves".

@dstewartsr

On the crosswalk thing, let's make it more elaborate. Put up flashing signs warning of pedestrians; push buttons to activate a stop light; talking crosswalk timers for the blind, etc, etc,. Maybe they tie up $200K with that after all is said and done. Still a far cry from the cost of an overpass. ($1,000,000+)

Unfortunately, that's not what liberals want, and it certainly isn't what liberal politicians want. You can't keep people dependent on the government if they are taking care of themselves.

What a waste

Last Friday I had the bad luck of getting behind a full bus in Fulton county...this was in Alpharetta Ga......the bus stopped at every block & many---many kids got off....this was no more than 1/2 block stops.....the kids maybe had to walk 40 feet or so...unbelievable....the cars were backing up for miles......& we need a dang study about why KIDS ARE FAT....We need a study about why we are so stupid to let this happen..

I forget a lot these days ha

Carson said a lot......he is a humble ...polite & soft spoken Dr......if he could come up with a program that would work in our failing school system ...well that in itself would be a miracle..he came from humble beginnings & if anyone knows what a great education can do for you...that man should know.

Trees trees & more trees

“Trees mean a lot of things,” said Bryan Haltermann, the chairman of Trees for Augusta. “We appreciate the aesthetics and the environmental benefits of trees, but more than anything, trees knit neighborhoods together.

Now that might sound impossible but I find it to be true.....our environment has a big impact on our everday living....& that would help the southside more than words can say.....it isn't just the beauty of plants & trees...it is showing the care & love & concern for others....instead of punishing kids with after school detentions...why not put them to work planting their neighborhoods..

Trees

Don't you just hate it when new neighborhoods are developed, they clear cut 100 acres and populate it with boxes jammed up on each other with no trees? Ugly, ugly, ugly....

One of the reasons we bought in this neighborhood is because they did NOT cut down all the trees...we are loaded with trees in the back....can't grow grass but the air is clear & pristine....& in the summer with leaves on the trees ...we can barely see the houses in back....

Crosswalk

I like that, Allhans. Reynolds already has a traffic light at every intersection. Now, let's place a speed bump in between every intersection. It will take thirty minutes to travel from Sixth Street to Fifteenth Street. That'll show ’em.

More about Ben Carson....

Sorry to keep going on & on but the man is fascinating to me....his life....

"One of the things that really has inspired me and pushed me on is learning about the human brain and recognizing the incredible potential that lies there—but also recognizing how few people use it."

Sonya Carson decided to take matters into her own hands by switching off the television. Ben and Curtis were allowed to watch only two programs a week, and their mother made them read two books each week from the Detroit Public Library. The boys were also required to write book reports, which Sonya would underline and mark up. Only later did Ben Carson realize his mother, who had left school after the third grade, was barely able to read. "She pulled a fast one on us," Carson told David Gergen of PBS, "but after a while, something happened. I began to actually enjoy reading the books.... I could go anywhere in the world, be anybody, do anything. You know my imagination began to run wild." Within a year-and-a-half Carson went from the bottom of his class to the top of his class.

Trees do make the neighborhood!

I agree with Seenit and anotherday regarding trees and neighborhoods. I love my backyard with all of it's trees and especially enjoy the fact that I have a half dozen White Oaks. White Oaks produce big nuts and in the fall and winter the local deer and squirrels love to eat them.

Don't you just hate to drive down Columbia Rd. and see all of the neighborhoods with boxes lined up side by side in what used to be a hay field. Nice homes but no charm. Not for me!
