Rants & Raves

PLEASE KEEP LETTERS coming complaining about the name of GRU, and also about Dr. (Ricardo) Azziz. Don’t pay any attention to these people who say to stop complaining. Keep complaining until the name is changed.

THERE IS FAR TOO MUCH talk about racism. If everyone would conduct themselves properly, bring their children up properly and do what’s right, they would be accepted anywhere. Just be nice; that’s all.

RAVE FOR MARION WILLIAMS. I agree with him. I don’t think those policemen need new cars where the doors open wider. Maybe they just need to lose a little weight. Maybe Sheriff Roundtree should use some of that money to put some of them on an exercise program.

OBAMA’S CANCELLATION of the Easter egg roll for the children reminds me of the idiocy that President Johnson performed when he turned off the lights in the White House to pay for the Vietnam War.

I DON’T WANT TO READ about six homeless people on a train who took good care of their animals. It is embarrassing enough that they are homeless. Let’s find better news to report.

RANTS TO AN eye doctor practice. From the condescending, sarcastic attitude of the staff toward all the patients to your extremely long wait time. You are certainly not the best when it comes to customer relations.

HIGHWAY 1 FROM Aiken to Augusta, was built as an early version of an expressway to move traffic faster. Now, all the little ex-mill villages have placed a 45 mph speed limit sign on it simply as a way to make money from travelers on tickets. I counted 12 45-mph signs from Augusta to the Aiken bypass and two 55-mph signs. No one can obey these up and down speed limits, so another useful thing has been rendered useless.

"THERE IS FAR TOO MUCH

... talk about racism."

But it will never end. Racism to a liberal ultimately excuses being a loser; an all-purpose retort when there is no intellectual argument, and multipurpose slander when facts are inconvenient. For liberal speech, racism is almost as well used as indefinite articles like "the" and "an".

With almost as little pejorative effectiveness in current culture.

You are part of the problem as is the local TV and Newspaper. All you hear or see in print is GRU. What about saying GRUA when you refer to my favorite "MCG". azzie's plan is to drop that "A" and looks like everyong is doing just that.

Yep dstewartsr,

It is just an excuse most of the time to avoid holding people accountable for their behavior/actions.

On the flip side; we all need to be more careful and aware about ascribing certain behavior/actions to race instead of culture.

As an example, the recent kerfluffle about the Laney Walker grocery store with a crowd of people wanting to claim the spoils... The crowd was black as far as I could see; but I can tell you with certainty that my black neighbors would not have given a second thought to being in that crowd. It is a mentality/cultural thing, not a racial thing.

We always need to keep that in mind when when judging situations.

Williams

What we need is to let the fleet manager do his job without the micromanaging Marion Williams interfering. It is that person's job to get the most bang for the buck for the taxpayers, while balancing that against the employee's needs to do their job effectively. Why pay a fleet manager if you are going to have some self important dimwit commissioner second guessing their decisions? If they aren't performing, fire them and get someone who will. THAT is within the commissioner's purview.

Private developers love Augusta

A new medical office building is opening at 1022 Walton Way(former car wash) right next to the Judicial Center.
http://appweb.augustaga.gov/planning_zoning/plazid_display.asp?zID=4465

This should help further connect the CBD/Medical District, and grow the Medical District further down along Walton Way. The lot at Saint Sebastian/Walton Way(proposed 2 story 32k sq. ft. building), General Freight Furniture building, and the property at Walton Way/11th are prime spots.

In the future expect to see the private construction increase outside of the Medical District, and takeover parts of Laney Walker, Harrisburg, Turpin Hill, and Bethlehem. The real estate prices, and the lack of land will force people too look into the surrounding areas.

Medical District = Boomtown

1. $112 million Dental school opened 2011
2. $76.5 million Medical Commons under construction
3. $5 million going towards the existing Cancer Center
4. $1 million Laney Walker pedestrian park coming soon
5. $100 million Cancer Center/crosswalk over 15th coming soon (helping Augusta become home to the 2nd NCI Cancer Center in the state/Emory in Atlanta)
6. $50 million renovation of the old dental school coming soon
7. 25 acre commercial development coming soon

There's another large medical related building coming soon to West Augusta(45k SQ. FT. skilled nursing facility). I wish the location was closer to the Augusta Exchange(plenty of new medical buildings near Doctors Hospital), but Pleasant Home rd is in the general area.

RAVE's to RCSO Deputies in Cars 133, 233 and 234

The South Side is fortunate to have y'all.

Y'all have:
Great personalities,
Are extremely professional when needed,
sincerely Sociable and very helpful in many situations.

Thank you for being part of our community and not a feared and avoided asset.

ANOTHER RAVE - Sheriff Roundtree
Thank you for transferring a former South Side posted deputy that was openly abrasive with residents, and community watch members in Goshen area.

We understand he was rewarded with a career challenging beat called Barton Village. Maybe some day it will dawn on him that he alienated an asset by treating then like problems instead of working with them.

RANT TO THE RAVE/RANT

"RAVE FOR MARION WILLIAMS. I agree with him. I don’t think those policemen need new cars where the doors open wider"

OK I challenge you.
Take and average build person.
Add a Bullet Proof Vest,
Add holster,
Extra ammo clips,
Handcuffs,
Side arm,
Taser,
Radio & radio holster,

Now try to get them behind the wheel of a small car with a narrow door limit seat to steering wheel clearance.

Before you jump in a say why all this gear?
Police safety is constantly evolving. Now think of the Spurius' that would not think twice of popping a cap on a LEO.

Remember:
Many share the general opinion of Mary Willy as:
Stultus est sicut stultus facit .

But don't get me wrong, If and when he can tying up wasteful spending Downtown and not abuse the process, in the process I'll support him in those cases.

@ American Rose

The plan is to develop more Grooos as the years go by. The plan will take a long time (perhaps as many as 50 - 60 years), but eventually there will be many Grooos:

Grooo – Carrollton
Grooo – Columbus
Grooo – Americus
Grooo – Valdosta

Maybe even Grooo – Statesboro

I think Univ. of Ga., Ga. State, and Ga. Tech will be the only ones left with no Grooo in the name. Those regents are vain and narcissistic now, and they will only grow more so.

What is wrong with the schools..

Here is one reason we are in trouble..

The school safety officer was asked to help with an unruly student in a classroom at about 2:30 p.m. The student told an assistant principal to stay away and walked out of the class. The assistant principal and officer told the student to go to the office, but she said she wanted to go home and went to her locker.

The student eventually went to the office and called her mother. As the student left, the officer caught up with her, asked her to return to the office and took her arm to guide her back.

The student snatched her arm away and became irate. The officer told the student repeatedly to calm down or he’d spray her with pepper spray. The student then swung at the officer and the two fought until he pepper sprayed her. The student was taken to the officer and treated for the pepper spray.

The officer’s uniform was damaged during the scuffle.

Because the juvenile detention center was full, the student was released to her parents and told when to report for her court date in Columbia County Juvenile Court.

BECAUSE THE DETENTION CENTER WAS FULL!!!!!!!

So not accepting someone's behavior is grounds to be racist?

All the "talk" isn't just happenstance.

Let's see....I have seen waaaaay more "talk" about blacks than whites, in this forum; locally, it all seems to come from one direction.

Fact is: Jesus loved everyone.
Fact is: Jesus had skin of olive complexion and hair of wool.

I'm thinking that's more speculation than fact, much like your comment about the racial "talk" on this forum.

Keysville Nursing home
Unpublished

Rants to the Keysville nursing home. They have known for weeks about a scabies outbreak at the facility. They have tried to cover it up. Staff has been directed not to put it in the patient's charts. They have it listed as parasitic infection. They have been trying to spot treat patients with elimite cream. Now at least 30 patients have scabies and are not being treated properly. A few staff members are also infected, but are not allowed to claim workmans comp. A couple of patients that have been sent to appointments away from the facility have been diagnosed with Norwegian scabies. This is the more severe form. They administration recently fired a staff member for telling a patient's familiy what the patient had. This is sad that this is being covered up and the patients are not being treated properly. The patients are suffering and being mistreated.
