REDISTRIBUTING wealth will not reduce or eliminate poverty. But, redistributing a work ethic will.

IT’S HARD FOR me to believe that Commissioner Grady Smith doesn’t see the conflict of interest created by commissioners performing work for the city-county. It is also puzzling that he is going on and on about it not being a conflict of interest.

THE REASON HIGHER-UPS in government ask for more money is because they are educated, and that is what you are paying for – their smarts. For example, you would pay more for a mill supervisor than you would for a floor sweeper. That is how society works. Education equals money.

A NEW $1.2 MILLION “public trail” at the Augusta Canal; an absurd amount; and somebody’s getting rich off the taxpayer – again. Did our founders ever spend a million bucks for a trail? And 1,800 feet of concrete trail. Who ever heard of a trail of concrete? These people claim to love nature and then pave over it.

THE OBAMA-CREATED sequester has created havoc and hardship for the military operations, government agencies, government workers, retirees, and educational systems around the nation. Yet, there is still an endless flow of money to those on public assistance and to illegal aliens.

THE FLAGGING ARMS and ammunition industry is rebounding. I’m wondering if Obama proposed control, ban, and confiscation for durable goods if those industries would rebound as well.

WORKERS OF THE U.S., unite. Throw off the oppressive Democrat regime in DC. You have nothing to lose but your high taxes.

ONE WAY TO SOLVE the problems of the Catholic Church is to let the priests marry.

YOU WRITE THE federal “government can, and should regulate … safety of our food, water, and air.” Can you find that anywhere in the Constitution? If not, it’s wrong. Once you allow government to do that, they won’t stop till we’re slaves.

IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL Sunday to run 6 miles at the Augusta Canal. What a shame to have no water for myself or my dog when we finished because of Columbia County Parks having the water fountains shut off.

About the 'public trail'.

About the 'public trail'. Lots of people do enjoy nature and not all of them are able to stroll through it because of handicaps. The paved trails makes nature walks available to everyone.

Regarding the 'public trail',

Regarding the 'public trail', many people have physical handicaps and are not able to easily walk a trail which is not paved. Also, parents with young children and strollers find it more manageable to walk a paved path than an uneven trail.

"Education equals money." Not!

R&R # 2. What if the floor sweeper has taken their time and money to get a degree shouldn't they be paid for being "educated?" That's not the way it works. You take a job, understand what the job is and you accept the pay. So no, just being "educated" doesn't entitle you to more pay!

Augusta Canal expansion = higher quality of life

#4. Do you want the city of Augusta to give the $800k-$900k grant back to the FEDS?

The Augusta Canal expansion will help improve the quality of life. The more people walking & biking instead of driving automobiles the better. Lower obesity rates, increased use of public transportation, decreased automobile related accidents, additional foot traffic, increased sense of community on the street level, less carbon monoxide in the air, increased cosmopolitan feel, etc. The Canal is also located near the King Mill, Sibley Mill, and Broad street bus terminal(GRU expansion). The city must have multiple top quality attractions in order to attract the best.

Good Morning "SEQUESTERED" America

@5, You also have me curious as to the flow of American tax money that was used by the King SMNCICBHO, the Hammer & Sickle Man, wife and his darling offsprings on just their pleasures.
Can anybody research and provide that figure, less say just for the year 2012. Just may come close to the total "Sequestered" figure.

More Money for Education

All my life I've worked with people who have "Education" who can't read, write, speak or spell. I'm talking about people with Bachelors and Masters degrees. One thing education doesn't teach is common sense!! If it did our laws and taxes wouldn't be so screwed up. No, I don't have a college degree. What I do have is a lifetime of experience coupled with a desire to learn. What has that gotten me? An opportunity to train all these higher paid, higher educated individuals on how to do their jobs. There are other kinds of education than what you pay for at some institution.

My feelings too.
We have all heard the saying "Educated Idiot". There are many. Most have ended up in the political arena.

SweetSon explained it well.

SweetSon explained it well. Education is a good thing, but don't think it entitles you to a good job. Many people who should never have gone to college end up tens of thousands of dollars in debt and can't find a job. They become angry at the system when it was the colleges that took their money and deceived them. In 1970 about 10% of Americans obtained college degrees. Today it is over 22%. In 1970 it was difficult to even get in a college, today we have all kinds of colleges who will take anyone.

Question about Commerical Banking

I've heard of a trend going on in Georgia and perhaps all over the nation that the Gurleys' fiasco reminded me of. Apparently, commercial loans are not the same as home loans and the interest and payments can be increased at the whim of the bank. As the economy has improved banks are telling businesses to pay more or vacate even though they are current on their payments and so on. Does anyone know about this banking maneuver?

Commercial Loans

For some reason, I thought the Gurley Store owner was simply renting the building from the bank. Am I wrong? Was there a foreclosure involved as well as an eviction?

LL, I'm not certain about the Gurley's case, but a lawyer told me about the practice of banks increasing the payments on commercial loans as the economy has improved.

REDISTRIBUTING wealth will not reduce or eliminate poverty

How many times will that have to be proven in this world.....how many times....
We could give each family in Haiti a huge lump sum....& watch how fast it disappears....will we ever learn this lesson...or give every family in Hephzibah (just using as an example at random) same thing..

A fact

"REDISTRIBUTING wealth will not reduce or eliminate poverty."

No it won't. The majority of people at a lower station in life are there for a reason. You could put $1M in their hands, and at some point the majority will be poor again.

"THE REASON HIGHER-UPS in

"THE REASON HIGHER-UPS in government ask for more money is because they are educated, and that is what you are paying for – their smarts."

You are kidding.....right? There are a lot of people out there with a piece of paper hanging on the wall that are dumb as a rock. All that piece of paper means is that they had access enough grants, loans, and/or government programs to keep paying tuition long enough to graduate.....especially for any "liberal arts" degree. I worked with a guy who had 2 Master's degrees in, of all things, Education from one of our local colleges who could not write a coherent sentence. Every time he turned a Draft in to be typed the secretary would have to sit down with him and go over every sentence to try and figure out what he really meant to say. Two Master's degrees courtesy of the VA and Pell grants.

Education means little or nothing when it comes to the "smarts" of governmental problem solving. A good sheriff, for instance, can be a high school graduate or have a Master's degree but you pay them as the Sheriff, not because of the bogus piece of paper he got online...or at night school......or during a suspension. You don't pay a NEW SHERIFF with a high school diploma less than a NEW SHERIFF with a Master's degree. You just pay A SALARY for the SHERIFF. A NEW SHERIFF starts out at BASE SALARY, regardless of education, and then gets Cost of Living increases from there.

Same thing goes for TAX Commissioners and Solicitors. Except in Augusta where your starting salary apparently depends on your color. I assure you that there would never have been an issue about the new sheriff's base salary if we had elected a white sheriff regardless of what degree or experience they had. You know it....I know it.....everyone knows it.

Rant #3 Apparently listened

Rant #3 Apparently listened to this bit of nonsense yesterday...
"Today, there's no trade-off as federal workers often make good money ... "They are the best-educated workforce in the United States. They tend to be highly specialized. They could go to (the) private sector and earn more money," said the ... non-voting representative in Congress, Eleanor Holmes Norton....

You have to laugh...

The budget cuts haven't crimped Homeland Security's Ammo Purchases.

Remember I brought this up months ago and lot of people thought I was crazy at the time.

Pablo Co. has one of the largest Homeland Security Ammo Dumps right now.
