Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

THE RCBE TAKING INTO consideration providing transportation to alternative school students with the cuts to education? Those students gave up their right for transportation when they did not follow rules of conduct. And now their parents want taxpayers to pay for the bus to pick their child up?

WHY IS SO MUCH MORE spent downtown than in the suburbs, when almost 60 percent of the property taxes come from the suburbs? The suburbs are being forced to supply money to an addict that has a spending problem.

RANT FOR LACK OF parking at the Ruffin Courthouse. The only option seemed to be across the railroad tracks in another paved lot! If you have to cross the railroad tracks a pedestrian walkway should be established.

WAY TO GO, Richmond School Board. Tossing away $241,000. What a foolish bunch of yahoos you are. We need to get you people replaced.

WHY DO AT LEAST a quarter of all Richmond County jail inmates have personal cellphones? Does “security” even try to stop it anymore?

IN RESPONSE TO the person who stated that North Augusta does not want the stadium. SPEAK FOR YOURSELF (riverfront property owner). You do not represent most of North Augusta who does want the stadium!

THANK GOD WE have at least one wise commissioner. Donnie Smith, thank you for speaking with much intelligence. You’re appreciated.

RANT TO THE sheriff’s deputy who continues to drive erratically on Boy Scout Road. I noticed him passing a delivery truck on a double yellow line going into a curve. Talk about dangerous drivers.

IT SOUNDS LIKE SOME of these students need to walk to school. Get creative, parents. Make car pools. Get your children there; you can find a way. Exercise will do the kids good. They are being punished for a reason. The buses are a privilege. Walking a little bit is not going to hurt them.

WHY DOESN’T COMCAST keep the employees being laid off at the Augusta call center and lay off the employees at the call center in the Philippines?

SEAN RULES THE comments with an iron fist. What about our freedom of speech?

Jail Inmates With Cell Phones...

Is that true? Cell phone use by jail inmates in Richmond County is widespread? Didn't Columbia County just fire their Jailer for allowing a couple of inmates access to a cell phone?

Does this mean that Columbia County is more "enlightened" than Richmond County, or less?

You don't have the freedom to say what you want on a private medium. The AC owns this space and has veto power on what is said here. You can say what you want in a public place (provided you cause no physical harm-like a riot or stampede), but not in a private environment.

Better Inmates in Columbia County

We have better inmates in Columbia County. They are usually hoboes riding the trains and so on. So we reward them by providing a better and tougher jail sentence with no cell phones. (It's a joke, folks.)

About Censorship

About censorship…It’s much more creative and fun to irritate foes in ways that are not against the TOS. I try to affect the intellect and emotions. I want the reader to analyze what I say, but also to feel something…good, bad or something in between. In a dispute more detailed and descriptive comments affect more than calling someone names. This, of course, doesn't mean I always win arguments. I lose about as many as I win. (I threw those last two lines in to make y'all feel good about me...the emotional.)

"IT SOUNDS LIKE SOME of these students

... need to walk to school... "

Some of these juvenile delinquents, not students by any means, need to be out of school, period. They've forfeited their taxpayer subsidized shot at an education; let their parents figure it out. On their dime.

And for the sob sisters who chime in these "poor children" will have no future without an education: They've demonstrated they have none already. They only serve to disrupt and destroy any learning that might take place.

WHY IS SO MUCH MORE spent downtown than in the suburbs?

What would anyone expect when the city is super-majority black and the government was set up to be DOJ compliant?

Majority of commissioners live south of Gordon Hwy=South Augusta

#2. The majority of money is not spend downtown. The library, TEE center, and Judicial center were all proposed for multiple years before finally coming to fruition recently. The $10 million going towards Augusta Regional, $4 million lake at Regency Mall, $18 million to the Webster Detention Center, $4 million on Marvin Griffin rd, etc in South Augusta aren't 'sexy' projects(Splost VI). The $20 million Vocational high school recently opened next to Augusta Tech in South Augusta. Please ride through Diamond Lakes, and see the amount of taxpayer money(over $1 million in Splost VI) spent over the last few yearS. The Augusta Common is nice, but I wish the downtown area had something to compete. I really want to see an urban park with waterfalls/bridges combined with the proposed Augusta Greenway.
http://augustagreenway.org/wordpress/

The Central Business District is majority white, and Richmond County is barely majority black. The black population is also stagnant in Richmond County, and the white population is growing the fastest(opposite of Columbia County). If somebody wants to call the surrounding areas 'downtown'.

Waters Edge/Olde Town=white
Harrisburg=diverse
Laney Walker/Bethlehem/East Augusta/Turpin Hill=black

#3. The city of Augusta must stay away from massive parking lots in the urban core, and focus on building parking garages(mandatory space for businesses on the first floor). I hope you realize any new bridge will cause the same people to begin complaining about spending money downtown.

Augusta growing!! Village at Riverwatch= mixed use development

The Village at Riverwatch will probably end up looking similar to the Village at Sandhills in Columbia. The next development includes 300 upscale(three story)apartments. NCG Cinemas and Home Goods are being mentioned to open at the site. The new theater will help relieve some of the congestion at Regal Exchange in the Augusta Exchange. The former Regal Village in the Augusta West Plaza was purchased, and could become a move theater again.

Newcomers to Fort Gordon, future GRU students/faculty, young professionals, etc won't have any problems finding new class A apartments in the suburbs(1400 units underway/proposed). The good news is two of the developments are located in South Augusta, because West Augusta is full of apartments between $800-$1500 per month. The most recent apartment complexes were all built in West Augusta(Brigham Woods $900-$1400, Parc at Flowing Wells $800-$1400, & the cheapest one Avalon $700-$800)...

West Augusta
1. Village at Riverwatch = 300
2. Gateway Crossing(Carmax area formerly Wheeler Town Park) = 240

3. Helena Springs = 250

Give Sean a break

As the receipient of numerous "love notes" , give the guy a break. He has a tough job keeping this bunch of opinionated folks under control. Also remember he didn't write the rules, he is simply the enforcer.

Transportation to alternative school

Ok if the parents want to complain about no transportation to the alternative school. Offer them this if they want bus transportation they have to pay for it. Have set locations to pick up and drop off at, have a set fee they will have to pay for each month and that fee must be paid in advance for the time the child is to go to the alternative school. Once the fee is paid the parents will be notified of the pick up and drop off location and the child will be given a pin number they must use to board the bus. Let the Board of Education provide the bus but the parents pay for the gas!!!!

Slice it or spin it or distract attention ...however they can

The question still remains.
WHY IS SO MUCH MORE is spent downtown than in the suburbs?

Why are we supporting the constant re-building, modernization, and location of NEW things Downtown?

Even before Consolidation saved Downtown it was a semi-Lost cause.

It is time to put a fork in it, and start moving and CENTRALIZING government in ARC. IF we are a to stay a Consolidated government we need to start relocating Government to a centralized location.

Either unite us or De-Consolidation us.
An De-Consolidation is looking better everyday.
Especially now that there are laws, processes and cases on the books about how to do it.

Good Morning "Almost Ashamed To Say" America

I think Sean has allowed "Freedom Of Speech" above and beyond in many comments posted. What more do you want unless you are a total {You Know What}.

I have to admit Sean has calmed this old farm boy down since my beginning on here and I thank him for it.

County Population Shift

Countyman said, “The black population is also stagnant in Richmond County, and the white population is growing the fastest(opposite of Columbia County).”

What makes you think the black population is decreasing in Richmond County and increasing in Columbia County? The U.S. Census of 2010 and the recent census estimate for the past two years didn't give any hint of that. Do you think these apartments being built in Richmond County will have mainly white renters? You're not counting the white squirrels are you?

dear ranter#1 what you have

dear ranter#1
what you have are nothing more than obama voters free to come out of the woodwork demanding more "free stuff from da gubment"...they have already abdicated their parental responsibility of properly raising and preparing their bad az$ children to the schools so now instead of being a place of learning schools are nothing more than large childcare facilities. the sorry, no-good, trifling parents like the one who while smiling was standing next to her 14 yr old son, what her sorry a$z should have been doing was knocking that sorry waste of a human being (her bad az$ son) upside his head to knock some sense into him abput the importance of school. but when you like hare are a obama voter with very little knowledge or respect for yourself or authority and have been living off "da gubment" as probably she has been all of her life there is an expectation of entitlement from "da gubment" that she is "owed" something "cause i be black, and dey is racism out dey because weee's was slaves longt time ago" this is the mentality that is pervasive thoughout the welfare leech, moocher, and parasitic class and when you read someone upset about having to provide for their bad a$z child to get him/her to the kn ucklehead.....ooops i mean the alternative school what/who you are dealing with is a black female with one or more kids w/different "babbies daddies" living off "da gubment" her only job is being a brood mare having baby after baby that she can't afford expecting society to feed, clothe, and provide a place to sleep and complains because she know has to use her welfare money that she spends in "da club" for gas to get her bad a$z child(ren) to school.

Crossword placement

Can anyone explain why the crossword/comic section cannot be in the same place in the newspaper every day?. It has been my experience that the person reading the sports section for example is not the same one doing the crossword puzzle, why not attach it to the local section that way you minimize any conflict between sports readers and puzzle doers. Just a suggestion!!!!
