Military news

Army Pvt. Cody B. McCarty has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia. He is a 2012 graduate of Evans High School and the son of Eva and Anthony McCarty and the grandson of Gurney Pharr.

Army Pfc. Calvin D. Lynch has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia. He is a 2004 graduate of Glenn Hills High School and the son of Patricia Lynch.

Service award

Harriette Kirk Bohannon has been presented with the Outstanding Service Award by the University of Georgia College of Family and Consumer Sciences. She retired from the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning in 2008 and joined the University of Georgia Alumni Association Board of Directors in 2003. In 2005, she joined the Alumni Association’s executive committee and has served as the association’s secretary for the past six years.

Honor society

Aiken Technical College has inducted the following students into the Alpha Xi Lambda chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society: Neysa A. Aiken, Brittany E. Barbour, Taylor R. Commons, Wanda W. Holden, Kayla N. Jardine, Eric D. Jeffery, Venoya A. Lovett, Ashley N. Morgan, Cortney A. Rains, Victoria C. Robins, John O. Strom and Barbara S. Weathers.

Nursing externship

Georgia Regents University students Ashlyn Fowler, a senior, and Lindsey Waller, a junior, were selected for a highly competitive 10-week Summer III Nursing Externship at the Mayo Clinic.

4-H winners

Deer Chase Elementary School fifth-graders Jamari Stevenson, Jose Hernandez and Alex Amos came in first, second and third place, respectively, in the Richmond County 4-H Milkmake Competition March 12.
