Saturday wreck kills 1 in Aiken County

The Aiken County Coro­ner's Office has identified a man killed early Saturday in a single-car accident and they suspect the car had been stolen.

The driver, who died at the scene, was identified as Ivory Kirkland Jr., 36, of Aiken.  the vehicle he was driving was alleged to have been stolen some time that night, the coroner stated in a news release. There were no other details.

According to a news release from Coroner Tim Carl­ton, the accident took place about 1:45 a.m. near 200 Outing Club Road.

The vehicle, a Saturn with a Georgia license plate from Chatham County, appeared to have been traveling north when it left the road and struck a drainage culvert. It overturned, partially ejecting the driver – the only known occupant of the vehicle.

This is the seventh fatal crash in Aiken County in 2013.
