Freezes and fire threats across region

Weather conditions this afternoon in the Aiken-Augusta area will increase the threat of fire danger.

No burn permits will be issued today in Columbia County, according to a news release by Pam Tucker, director of Columbia County Emergency and Operations.

Winds are expected to be 15-20 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. The breezy conditions combined with low humidity โ€“ expected to be between 15 and 20 percent โ€“ can cause fires to easily spread.

A freeze watch has also been issued for Friday morning from 2-9 a.m. Friday for portions of the area.

Counties included in the watch are Columbia, Lincoln, Lancaster, McCormick, Newberry, Fairfield, Edgefield and Saluda.
