Winterlike weather is expected to make at least one more appearance in the Aiken-Augusta area before spring – which began Wednesday – fully arrives.

A freeze warning has been issued for the northwestern part of the area for early this morning, said Jim Kilmer, of the National Weather Service in Columbia.

That includes Lincoln County, Ga., and McCormick County, S.C., he said.

Temperatures will be in the lower 30s, although Richmond, Columbia and Aiken counties do not fall under the freeze warning.

Although a fire warning has not been formally issued, weather conditions today will cause an elevated risk of fire danger, Kilmer said.

Winds this afternoon will be from the northwest at 10 to 15 mph, with gusts expected to be near 25 mph. Humidity will be in the teens. Those conditions will make it easier for a fire to catch and spread.

“It increased fire danger because of the gusty wind and low humitidy,” Kilmer said.

High temperatures today will be in the mid-50s.

Friday will be mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 50s and lows in the low 40s and a 30 percent chance of rain.

The weekend is expected to be rainy, with a 70 percent chance Saturday, an 80 percent chance Saturday night and a 50 percent chance on Sunday. Highs this weekend will be in the mid- to upper 50s and lows in the mid-40s.
