Fire weather watch issued for Aiken-Augusta area

The National Weather Service has issued a fire weather watch for the Aiken-Augusta area for most of today.

According to a news release, winds are expected to be 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. Humidity will be about 25 percent. Those conditions might cause any fires to spread quickly.

The watch will be in effect between 1 and 7 p.m.

Area counties under the watch include Richmond, Columbia, Burke, Lincoln, McDuffie, McCormick, Edgefield, Saluda, Aiken and Barnwell.
