An Augusta woman killed in a two-vehicle wreck Thursday on Mike Padgett Highway has been identified.

Toni Gilmore Erkens, 41, of the 2000 block of McNutt Road, was pronounced dead at the scene about 3 p.m. after being hit by a Georgia Department of Natural Resources truck near Bennock Mill Road, according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office statement.

Witnesses said Erkens was driving south in a 1990 Honda Civic about 2:30 p.m. when she tried to make a left turn onto Bennock Mill Road. She turned into the path of a 2007 GMC Sierra, driven by Seth Thompson, 31, of the 4000 block of Waylon Drive in Martinez.

Thompson, a wildlife technician, hit the passenger side of Erkens’ car. He was taken to a hospital with what appeared to be minor injures.

Erkens was wearing her seat belt.
