Two east Georgia state parks were honored recently with awards for superior maintenance and volunteer programs.

Mistletoe State Park on Thurmond Lake in Columbia County received the Best Year-Round Programming Award by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

Mistletoe State Park offered numerous programs during 2012. Their events include Junior Ranger camps, fishing rodeos, a fall festival, hayrides and nature hikes.

A.H. Stephens Historic Park in Crawfordville was awarded the Most Outstanding Maintenance Program Award.

Staff at the state park in Crawfordville also maintain nearby Hamburg State Outdoor Recreation Area. During reorganization in 2010, Hamburg was transitioned from a state park to an outdoor recreation area, with management provided by A.H. Stephens.

Stephens has also expanded equestrian camping facilities at the park.

The awards were presented during a recent conference co-hosted by the park system and Friends of Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites.
