Woman killed in I-20 crash

A woman is dead after the car she was riding in crashed on Interstate 20 early Saturday.

The accident occurred about 4:30 a.m. near a weigh station on eastbound I-20. According to Columbia County sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris, Christopher Sanmiguel, 27, of Evans, was driving a 2008 Nissan Sentra when he fell asleep and lost control. The car swerved counterclockwise and struck a guardrail. It then traveled on top of the guardrail and struck a metal pole attached to a weigh station monitor.

Sanmiguel suffered minor injuries. The passenger died at Georgia Regents Medical Center.
