A Thursday fish fry will help the family of John Thompson, the2-year-old who died a week after firefighters pulled him from a burning house, with funeral and other expenses.

District 1 Augusta Commissioner Bill Fennoy said he organized the fish fry after learning the family had no insurance. Tickets are $10 in advance or at the door for the event, to be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at Eastview Community Center.

The Augusta Commission last week commended the five Augusta firefighters involved in searching the Carr Street house, locating and removing the child and resusitating him Feb. 10. Firefighters Ralph Jenkins, Travis Petrea, Daniel Rigdon, Adam Krebs and Mary Guest each have a special invitation to the fish fry, Fennoy said.

All money raised will go to a benefit account established for the family, Fennoy said. For more information call (706) 373-0075.
