Boating safety courses to be held this weekend

Boating safety courses will be offered by two organizations Saturday.

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary program called About Boating Safely will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 4232 Evans to Locks Road, Evans.

Topics will include maritime rules of the road, Georgia and South Carolina regulations, how to prevent emergencies and respond to them, docking, cruising tips, anchoring, trailering your boat, navigating on the lake, and personal watercraft operations and regulations. Participants should bring a sack lunch.

Also scheduled for Saturday is a safe-boating course offered by the Savannah River Sail and Power Squadron.

The program will be at the Boathouse, 101 Riverfront Drive, Augusta, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. It costs $25, which includes course materials and refreshments. To register, contact Paulette Harris-Holmes (706) 737-8113 or pharris@aug.edu.
