Rants & Raves

  • Follow Metro

A ROGUE FORMER LA policeman who murders a fellow officer is branded a “domestic terrorist” with a million-dollar bounty on his head. An American Muslim Army major who murders 14 fellow soldiers and has direct communication with al-Qaeda is just a case of “workplace violence.” Go figure.

OBAMA’S STATE OF THE Union address was more of the same on the transparent government. This administration’s next four years will be transparent as a piece of coal.

A BIG THANK-YOU to Sens. Chambliss and Isakson for voting for the Violence Against Women Act.

IT’S 5:49 A.M., DARK and raining, and there is a school bus picking up students. Really? 5:49 a.m. for children to get to school?

KUDOS TO OUR Augusta Chronicle deliveryman (Cedar Creek-Aiken). He delivered every paper during a recent rainy week completely dry! He double- and even triple-bagged my newspaper and threw it to the lawn not the driveway. He did everything he could to deliver a nice and dry newspaper.

A GIGANTIC RANT to Augusta Chronicle for printing the Section 8 rant. I am not surprised that people have racist views but for a paper to print such an overtly racist and bigoted statement … I am surprised; shame on you, Augusta Chronicle.

COUNT ME IN FOR naming the new Lakeside facility for Ryan Clark. Appropriate memorial for a heroic young man who died trying to save others.

RAVES TO THE city of Augusta. They are going green by having recycling collection events monthly around the city.

RANT TO JURY SERVICES for mailing a letter for jury duty to person that has not lived at my address in 9 years. Another rant to the Board of Elections for giving them the name and address and finally a RANT to the Postal Service for returning the letter “Unable to Forward/For Review” when the return address is 2 inches to the left of their yellow sticker.

Remember that some people who work for state and federal govts are just as stupid and lazy as some people who work in the private sector. You should learn to expect this.

Ryan Clark

Ryan Clark had been a member of the Lakeside band performing on Friday nights at the football games. At Virginia Tech he was also a member of the band. When the massacre at the school began, it’s believed Ryan went to the aid of a student and attempted to stop the shooter with his bare hands. We all know the sad outcome, but the Virginia Tech band TWICE came to Lakeside to perform as a tribute to Ryan. He was so highly thought of the major college band traveled many miles for appearances for two consecutive years to honor Ryan. I appreciate the Columbia County News Times, the reader who posted the rave and others who believe naming the new Lakeside complex after Ryan Clark is appropriate. Count me as one of many who believe that’s the right name for the beautiful new park and stadium. There is none more appropriate.

"A GIGANTIC RANT ... printing the Section 8 rant ..."

Yeah, the poster should have been DELIGHTED to have his property which he's worked and struggled for being turned into ghetto-adjacent after an absentee landlord turns it over to some drone who will destroy it while living in it on his taxes, and then move on consequence free.

Why do I assume the owner has struggled? Section Eight doesn't appear in the neighborhoods of the well to do... the very same ones who make it a point to piously point out how "we" need to help those "less well off."

NIMBY rules!

Most Discussed

Okay, fellow R&R commenters, it's time to set the record straight. For some reason, a hot thread was manually removed from the Most Discussed list while colder ones remained. It might have been the subject matter. Anyway, let's see if we can get it moved back onto the list. Click on the link below and make some posts, even if you don't care about the subject of the story. You can post a Hank Williams youTube song or perhaps a recipe or anything that fits your fancy.

Oh Little Lamb

No one manually removed a story from the most discussed list. There is no conspiracy. You can post whatever you want as long as it dosen't violate our terms of service. Keep it on topic. Recipes and Hank Williams songs can only be posted on R&R.

section 8

Ive had military and non military, big small, black, white and others rent my properties and they were excellant tenants. but section 8 tenants, 2 were enough. they destroyed my properties. although the housing dept pays their portions on time, the tenants are normally late with their parts. they live dirty, dont cut the grass, vacate properties without warnings and/or cleaning up. section 8 will not rent mine every again

" I am not surprised that people....

Who thinks this rant submitted by a white person? A yellow person? A brown person? A black person? I'm not aware that Section 8 is reserved for one specific race.

If someone uses the word "racist" twice, and the word "bigoted" once in the same sentence , what race would you bet they were?

Interesting observation

I want to share this unplanned experiment. We have 23 chickens that we release on our 20 country acres during the day. We had been feeding them twice a day. For some reason they always wanted to stay right around the back door and would not graze and search for food themselves like chickens should do. We decided to try reducing their feed by half. After a couple of days, we find them out in the woods finding their own food. Their egg production has not been affected, still producing great eggs. Interesting....

This is for Lilly today..:)

And she will know why....

Ever walk into a room with some purpose in mind, only to completely forget what that purpose was?
Turns out, doors themselves are to blame for these strange memory lapses.

Psychologists at the University of Notre Dame have discovered that passing through a doorway triggers what's known as an event boundary in the mind, separating one set of thoughts and memories from the next.Your brain files away the thoughts you had in the previous room and prepares a blank slate for the new locale.

Thank goodness for studies like this. It's not our age, it's that stupid door!

Don’t You feel better now?

Actually....

All true, seenitB4. Personally, I don't blame the door, instead, I call it "the threshold effect". However, I do recall that when I was CARRIED over a certain threshold; I didn't forget my purpose for crossing the threshold THAT time!
