Rants & Raves

RAVE FOR THE Second Amendment to our Constitution. It was put in place in case a tyrant ever came to power again the American people could defend themselves against the evil tyrant. After 235 years, it is very clear that time is now.

RANT FOR MARION Williams, who is standing in the way of progress in this once-great city. If you are intentionally blocking votes for this city to progress, you should be sued for dereliction of duty. People like you are the reason people are moving out.

THE SLOW construction on Bobby Jones Expressway has caused nothing but chaos and hardship for those who live in the Augusta area and travel on a daily basis.

PRESIDENT OBAMA HAS been wrong on just about everything he has done. But he is absolutely right on killing so-called Americans fighting for the enemy. I hope he continues targeting them.

RAVE FOR DELINQUA at the Publix bakery on Washington Road. She did a phenomenal job on my husband’s birthday cake. It was so delicious, there was not a crumb left.

THE AUGUSTA Commission has managed to get yet another person to quit taking over The Patch. Good luck to the new director to try to improve what can be changed and to maintain the good of The Patch.

WHY IN TARNATION do you want to mess with the success of Global Spectrum? If it was so easy, you would not have had all those years of financial spirals. Leave those great people alone.

NORTH AUGUSTA IS coming alive. I cannot wait to see the riverside project complete with world-class outside cafes. What great evenings lie ahead. Change is good, folks.

TO THE ZAXBY’S in North Augusta: The cashier gave us a Kiddie Finger meal free when my son threw his into the trash on accident. There are still some good customer service people in this world. Way to go, Zaxby’s, for hiring a good employee.

PLEASE STOP MESSING around when it comes to affecting us, the taxpayers. When will the Augusta Commission act like adults and do the right thing in regard to The Patch and the lease agreement? I don’t blame Virginia Beach Golf Management. Enough is enough, commission.

IS THE SPEED LIMIT posted for Bobby Jones Expressway just a recommended speed?

Second Amendment
Unpublished

The South has a weird and completely historically illiterate interpretation of the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment does not say that individuals have the right to bear arms and revolt against the government. The Second Amendment says that citizens have the right to bear arms in a well-regulated militia. Go read it. Google it. Show where it says you have the right to protect yourself against the government.

Why was the Second Amendment written in 1790? The fledgling US had no standing military and it had to rely on the same citizens militias that banded together to form the Continental Army and back up that army during the American Revolution. In view of these historical facts, a "well-regulated militia" from 1790 would translate into the state National Guard units or the reserves for the various branches of the US military today. It should not translate into letting any Tom, Dick, or Mary buy whatever weapon they want in a transaction that does not require proper registration or a background check so they can build their own private arsenals.

Here are some more stats and facts. There are about 310 million legal residents of the US and about 270 million legally-owned guns. There are probably just as many illegally-owned guns. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, about one-third of the US population (so over 100 million US citizens) has been diagnosed with mood disorders or personality disorders, some of which make them prone to violence and some of which require meds that can have violent side effects. As a result, there are probably 20 million people at any given time who could become the next Adam Lanza.

I have no issue with people owning guns if they keep them locked up, if they have no condition and the people who live with them have no conditions that might drive them to violence. The problem, however, is that people like Adam Lanza often commit their crimes by stealing guns, borrowing them, or buying them in private sales from people who claim to be responsible gun owners. So gun control is an issue. I don't see how requiring background checks or obtaining mental health clearance is going infringe on gun rights for anybody but crazy people and the people they live with who shouldn't have guns in the first place because their crazy person might get a hold of them. I also don't see why anybody needs an "assault weapon" to hunt Bambi or drive an intruder out of your home. Train with your shotgun regularly and you will be a good enough shot not to need a 30 rounds to kill a deer or shoot an intruder from 50 feet!

"...American people

... could defend themselves against the evil ... that time is now."

Doubt it; perhaps not just yet. I am, however, struck by the number people --not only on this site -- that are so ready to take 'the fight' to the streets. I wonder how many have ever even seen a shot fired in earnest; how many would take up those arms they cherish so loudly against an armed opponent.

Just sayin'

This little story is too close

... to reality. It was forwarded by lady friend who'se close to my daughter and me:

"Yesterday my daughter again asked why I didn't do something useful
with my time. Talking about my "doing something useful" seemed to be
her favorite topic of conversation. She was "only thinking of me" and
suggested I go down to the senior center and hang out with the guys.
I did this and when I got home last night I decided to teach her a
lesson about staying out of my business. I told her that I had joined
a parachute club.

She said, "Are you nuts? You're 67 years old and you're going
to start jumping out of airplanes again?" I proudly showed her that I even got a membership card.

She said to me, "Good grief, where are your glasses! This is a
membership to a Prostitute Club, not a Parachute Club."

"I'm in trouble again, and I don't know what to do... I signed up for
five times a week." I told her. She fainted."

Should we ban video games..

Law enforcement sources say Adam Lanza was motivated by violent video games and a strong desire to kill more people than another infamous mass murderer.

Sources say Lanza saw himself as being in direct competition with Anders Breivik, a Norwegian man who killed 77 people in July 2011.

A look back at the Norway massacre
Violent video games and mass violence a complex link

Breivik killed eight with a bombing in downtown Oslo. He then moved to a nearby island where hunted down and fatally shot 69 people, mostly teenagers attending a summer camp.

Two officials who have been briefed on the Newtown, Conn., investigation say Lanza wanted to top Breivik's death toll and targeted nearby Sandy Hook Elementary School because it was the "easiest target" with the "largest cluster of people."

The news & video games .......I've always said they get ideas from watching this on tv...

DRStewart, I know quite a few of these people and they've had extensive military/combat experience. When you see the current office holder in chief backed by great numbers of active military, you can bet the majority are there only because they have been ordered to be there! And yes, I got that from quite a few of the horses mouths also!!

Good Morning "To Not So Perfect" America.

dstewartsr, as an acquaintance and still close friend, Sorry, I had to give you a TSD on your first post.

I have no ill feelings of placing a .223 between the eyes of any enemy that is causing or attempting the destruction of America. I have in the past and will do it in the future if the time ever arose.

BJ Construction.

"THE SLOW construction on Bobby Jones Expressway has caused nothing but chaos and hardship"

I have noticed the disparity in the disruption and traffic jams between how the widening of Bobby Jones was handled over by the Mall and what is happening on this stretch of BJ. I was pretty impressed with how the widening over by the Mall was handled and how little disruption there was. Huge lights, people working all night, and traffic flowing pretty normally during the work day. But hey, THAT was west of the Gordon Hwy and THIS is east of the Gordon Hwy.....the part that services South Augusta. It's okay for us to live with daily traffic jams and multiple accidents for a year and a half or two.

Went through there yesterday and it looked like a typical road work contract.........10 or 15 trucks and pieces of machinery parked everywhere, 3 or 4 supervisors standing around watching 1 guy drive a bulldozer. When I came back even the bulldozer had stopped and they were all watching the wreck where two cars had tangled, one flipped, and one off in the trees.

You want to see other Black Presidents,
Unpublished

Look at a Black Liberation Bible. Pictures of Jesus and the Disciples, presidents from Washington on down, American statesmen, many displayed as mixed race African descendants. All life began in Africa according to Dr. Leakie. So it fits perfectly. We are all African Americans, just some lighter shades. One theory by Darwin is to much light at the time of conception. And after this weekends open house, we also know that we are all descendants of Ishmael and salvation is through his line.

Bobby Jones

Speaking of the widening project between Gordon Hwy. and Deans Bridge, one thing I think they are doing wrong is getting rid of the cloverleafs. There are full cloverleafs at both the Gordon Hwy. interchange and the Deans Bridge interchange. They function quite well. No one has to stop to get on or off the expressway.

But they are doing away with the cloverleafs and are putting in stop lights — at least two stop lights per interchange. How is this progress? Traffic will be backed up at the stop lights, idling their engines, then revving up to accelerate when the lights turn green. Global warming at its finest.

Why does the DOT think that traffic lights are better than cloverleafs? We're going backwards here, in my opinion.

"...Sorry, I had to give you a TSD

on your first post..."

S'okay, CG- if I don't get at least one TSD, sometimes I go back and give one myself. But I still believe wholeheartedly that the loudest and boldest on these sites --the ones so ready for battle-- haven't seen combat, or they would not be so eager for it. I also view with revulsion the idea of firing on fellow Americans, especially ones in the same uniform I served in for almost three decades.

More importantly, from their comments they seem to have no comprehension what a civil war historically brings in its wake. With the exception of the American revolution ((which was technically a war of secession as we didn't try to take over the English government)) I cannot think of one where the consequences to the country were not uniformly bad.

The special RCSO personnel authority

The special RCSO personnel authority that Freddie Sanders brought up yesterday in a blockbuster supposedly had Clyde Lester, the County Extension Agent, on the authority. I wonder who else was/is on it and if Lester has been asked anything? Did this authority somehow just die out?

You know what will change your mind about firing on someone in that uniform you speak of? The fact that whoever is wearing that uniform then, does not care about you, your family, America, or GOD. They will be "firing" at you with the intent to KILL you! I'm with George(as always) on this matter.........................

There have been too many

There have been too many successful revolutions around the world over the years with the people confronting large, high tech armies to think it wouldn't work here. Those kinds of wars are fought differently. But don't think I want things to go so far it will happen.

You have to wonder what if the liberals get complete power and can do anything they want, how far will they go? What do they ultimately want? I have an idea and THAT could result in rebellion.
