Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

RAVES TO THE Lexington-Richland District 5 school board for firing Scott Compton for stomping on MY flag. The attorney representing him should be disbarred, as well.

LET’S SUPPORT THOSE organizations such as New Bethlehem Community Center that are doing great things for the community. Their activities include a food pantry, clothing closet, GED classes, computer literacy classes, senior program and after school program.

WONDERING HOW A true believer in God can vote for the Democratic platform with its liberal views against pro-life and endorsing the homosexual agenda? How ’bout you Catholics?

HOPE THOSE GUN BUYERS who willingly paid twice the value for assault rifles and heavy artillery will be sure to lock those weapons safely away. Otherwise if they get stolen and used in a crime, we ought to charge you with the cost of hospital bills and/or funeral expenses for the victim, not to mention charges and fines for hazardous handling of dangerous materials.

THAT’S TRULY PITIFUL how the name of the hospital is also now named after our state regents. We need a new board and new governor to appoint some more sane people.

IF YOU PUT A CLOTH napkin on your lap in a restaurant, please put it on the table when you leave instead of just letting it fall on the floor. Someone can get seriously hurt if they trip on it!

BIG RAVE FOR Steve Crawford for his front page article on Sandy Rogers and her partner of 27 years.

AUGUSTA CHRONICLE, you couldn’t provide any news of a major house fire in North Augusta. Are we not in your news area anymore? REALLY?

A HUGE RANT to The Augusta Chronicle. What a shock and such a feeling of disgust I had Jan. 27, to open my Chronicle and see the feature story on Sandy Rogers you chose for the front page. This story should have been hidden in the opinion section or never ever appeared in the newspaper at all.

I DID NOT HEAR any big outcry about gun control from Obama when the shocking 2011 homicide figures from Chicago were released. The number was over 500 and included children, as well as adults. Let’s treat deaths by guns a great tragedy no matter where it occurs.

"RAVES TO THE

... school board for firing Scott Compton for stomping on MY flag..."

If it had happened in LA, he would not have been even noticed; in Chicago, 'Educator of the Year.' In Augusta, maybe fired, but would win a lawsuit against the chuckleheads that run the board for the way they did it.

As to his attorney, even the most base among us deserves to be represented.

That's because this regime believes in, "letting no crisis go to waste." This ain't a crisis for Chicago; it's business as usual. And The Obamessiah sure isn't going to point fingers at perps who look like if he had a son.

Napkins

I like cloth napkins and they are usually found at the better restaurants. It is possible that the person who let it fall was (a) not paying attention when getting up, (b) inebriated, (c) covering a stain on his trousers for as long as he could after going to the restroom or (d) a total jerk.

I wonder what the statistics are for people who trip over napkins and injure themselves in restaurants. The government needs to step in and regulate the size of said napkins. If current napkin size is 18"x18" then I think it not unwise to suggest a 6"x6" napkin. I am guessing that injuries from napkin tripping would be reduced by at least two thirds.

Of course there should be a government sponsored buy-back program for establishments and individuals who own oversized napkins. And restaurants should alert the authorities when a patron is spotted with an illegal sized napkin that was smuggled in.

There will probably be a Black Market for oversized napkins, much like there was for booze during Prohibition. Obese people will more than likely be sized-profiled and frisked when entering an eating establishment. But if it saves one person from tripping then I guess it will all be worth it.

mix of comments on todays R&Rs.

I find #4 especially interesting. I see some similarity between #4 and#6 and #10. Let's stop restaurant napkin violence. Let's put all deaths, nationwide, in perspective by the means of the death, i.e. Automobile, bathtub slippage, falling down steps, etc...

But back to #4.... I am curious if only those who paid twice the value need lock them up, or is it all owners of assault weapons who should be charged with the hospital bills of thevictims of the thief who stole their gun.

And what of the criminal who stole the weapon? I guess he is a victim of his/her circumstance. Needs second chance, I'm sure. But what if we held him accountable for A) stealing the weapon and B) shooting someone with it.

And what makes a weapon an assault weapon? Is a crowbar used in an assault an assault crowbar? An assault hammer. If you use your vehicle to drive into a crowd of people, is it an assault vehicle?

And what if your vehicle is stolen and used in the commission of a violent crime? Does the ranter think you should be responsible for those resulting hospital bills?

I have quoted George Wallace, the comedian, before..."The Whole World's gone crazy". I remember as a kid reading about Bizarro World in the Superman comic book.

Are we there yet?

Ranter #4...."Otherwise if they get stolen and used in a crime, we ought to charge you with the cost of hospital bills and/or funeral expenses for the victim, not to mention charges and fines for hazardous handling of dangerous materials."

Why do you want to do all of that to me. Hell, you want even lock up the punk who stole them from me and used them to commit a crime. And they NEVER get held financially responsible for injuries, hospital bills or anything. I think your priorities are upside down. If you would lock up the thieving little scumbags the first time they wouldn't be stealing weapons and committing more crimes.

I have an obligation to secure my weapons when children are in the house but I have no obligation to assume someone is going to break into my house and steal my guns. If he steals my TV too should I be liable to reimburse the pawn shop guy that bought it from the crook.

Get real Kemosabe. Start locking up these punk burglars and there won't be so many stolen weapons on the street. THEY are the criminals...not me. You let them go but want to punish me. The Democrat theory of whats "fair" seems to carry over from taxes to criminal justice.

Re: ranter #4...."Otherwise if

This post's --I'd write rationale, but it's irrational-- is the culmination of the 'innocent criminal' mindset that began in the sixties with the infamous "Don't let a good kid go bad ... lock your car." series of public service (?) announcements. Of course if the kid was worth a rat's hat, he wouldn't be stealing.

BAP

Since I have no idea of what AR said on his radio show I have been wondering what "BAP" meant. Can anyone give me a clue without saying the words? Is "B" in reference to a female dog? Is "A" in reference to your bottom? Is "P" in reference to a cat? Inquiring minds want to know.

Downers? Seeems to me that since there is typically no rebuttal to the comments they thumb down, it is 3 or 4 cowards just trolling.

Crawford's Sandy Rogers Story

When I saw the photo of the flag being given to Sandy Rogers, same sex, different race partner, at the funeral it took me a second to comprehend. This most Southern, genteel, conservative place of Aiken had lost a hero and honoring her was the most important requirement even if it meant, some like me, may take a while to comprehend the relationship. But the truth is things like that have always gone on in conservative communities and well-mannered communities like Aiken as they have quietly accepted all people. They don’t need legislation to tell them to do it either, it's natural to polite folks.

countyman..let me help you understand

YOU said you took riverman's posts with a grain of salt...heheh...also you couldn't understand why anyone would give him so many uppers.....weeeelll....evidently you are not aware that he sprays his post with a musk oil.... a scent that females find hard to ignore...but he is not the only one on here doing that...Cgee & RKill also use a scent....but RKill travels a lot & by the time he gets to Arkansas the scent fades....we can't pick it up again til he gets close to home....

Cgee just gets tired of his following so he sometimes puts a stinkbomb in his just to get some relief...if ya know whatta mean...

I'm surprised some don't get the sexual tension on these boards....you might want to check your radar screen....once some birds sat on mine & messed it up for months...til I realized what they did up on my rooftop....once I cleaned that sucker off I was back in the smelling business....

BUT the most potent musk comes from Rebel...he mixes something out thar in the woods past Tobacco Rd...he won't give his secret away either.....sorta like moonshine with a blackberry pie taste....

I'm all stuffy right now & can't smell.....:(

A smart woman

Giving Up Wine

I was walking down the street when I was
accosted by a particularly dirty and
shabby-looking homeless woman who asked me
for a couple of dollars for dinner.

I took out my wallet, got out ten dollars
and asked, 'If I give you this money, will
you buy wine with it instead of dinner?'

'No, I had to stop drinking years ago', the
homeless woman told me.

'Will you use it to go shopping instead of
buying food?' I asked.

'No, I don't waste time shopping,' the
homeless woman said. 'I must spend my time
trying to stay alive.'

'Will you spend this on a beauty salon
instead of food?' I asked.
'Are you NUTS!' replied the homeless woman.
I haven't had my hair done in 20 years!'

'Well, I said, 'I'm not going to give you
the money. Instead, I'm going to take you to
dinner with my husband and me tonight.'

The homeless Woman was shocked. 'Won't your
husband be furious with you for that. I'm
dirty, and I probably smell pretty
disgusting.'

I said, 'That's okay. It's important for him
to see what a woman looks like after she
gives up shopping, hair appointments, and
wine.'

Simple economics really....

People like the assault rifle ranter (which again I will point out there is no such thing) want the victims of the theft to pay because they know they won't get anything from the thief or the courts. Ranks right up there with people thinking the government owes them to take care of their brood!!
