Rants & Raves

KUDOS TO RICHMOND County employees Jennifer, Becky and Michelle at the Greene Street location and Debbi at the Judicial Center. We recently visited both locations, changing names on some property we own. Every one of these employees made us feel welcome, took time to explain procedures and generally left us with the feeling that our government employees care deeply about us and don’t see us as an interruption. Thank you all for making the process so enjoyable.

A RANT FOR THE Board of Health on Windsor Spring Road. I realize this is a new year. But why do they have the doors open at noon if the nurses and everyone are gone to lunch? My daughter and I arrived at 12:06 p.m. and sat there in the lobby until 1 p.m. just trying to obtain information about out-of-country immunizations. At 1 p.m. we were directed to the other location. I guess the trip wasn’t all bad; the police officer and the lady at window 1 were real helpful. Thanks

INSTEAD OF MOVING the GreenJackets to North Augusta, can we just send Deke Copenhaver across the river instead? He’s been a major disappointment as mayor.

HATS OFF TO THE MACH Academy! You are to be admired for what your students are achieving in this learning environment!

WITH PAINE COLLEGE being private, how can they be eligible to receive money from the special purpose local option sales tax fund toward the construction of the new Health Education Activities Learning Complex?

JOHN BOEHNER SEEMS seems to be severely challenged lately. Maybe the new Republicans can get it straight this time. I wish them the best.

CONSERVATIVES IN THE U.S. Congress are badly in need of a Winston Churchill to take the lead in the battle against the Democratic Marxists. Instead, we get Neville Chamberlain.

DON’T BLAME, BUT praise the Augusta Commission for not
OK’ing a new ballpark on top of the TEE and parking deck. There is not enough money for priority items now. Let’s get some roads fixed, give the employees some raises. Then, when the millionaires can come together to flow in money, we can pay for luxuries.

THANKS FOR THE update on Five Guys for the south side! What other restaurants are out there? Maybe I can visit that side of the city again.

Shoot, I wish Columbia County would give some of the restaurants to Richmond Cty. We have too many of them now. I'd trade y'all 3 restaurants for a good bar.

countyman......"The options

countyman......"The options include Ryans, Applebees, Cici's Pizza, Sconyers, Veracruz, Five Guys, Villa Europa, Wife Saver, and the multiple fast food/chinese/fish places."

In other words, in the past 6 or 8 years South Augusta got a Five Guys and that's it. Didn't mention the ones that closed and boarded up in the same time frame.

And you can scratch Ryan's off of the list as far as I'm concerned. I quit going there when they took the steaks off of the menu. That crap they cut off of a cheap roast can't be considered a steak....not even a mediocre steak. Gosh I miss Western Sizzlin. I know they weren't great steaks but they were a cheap, edible, facsimile.

Aiken is a pretty snazzy

Aiken is a pretty snazzy place to have lunch or dinner and walk around a bit enjoying the city. Columbia County is more like California where everyone drives up to a strip mall.

I saw Anthony Bourdain on his new show, 24 Hour Layover, and he was in Atlanta. He drove to strip mall restaurants on Buford Hwy to show the real Atlanta. It kind of reminded me of Columbia Cty and the CSRA. Did you see that show, SeenIt?

Didn't see the show, but NO one get themselves caught on most parts of Buford Highway. As you get further north into Buford proper, it gets pretty nice. Downtown Buford has quite a few good places to eat and one heck of a High School Football team as well. The list Seenit posted is pretty good, but it is missing a ton of good ones.

Columbia Co

Not sure I would compare Columbia Co with California in terms of strip malls. I guess it depends on where you live out here because there are strip malls but many are located in areas where there are surrounding neighborhoods that are easy walking distances. Also we have easy walking downtown areas which have many fine eating establishments that are locally owned, not chains. Where in Columbia Co can you park, walk around a downtown area and enjoy a great meal? Appling?

I tried the Applebee's on

I tried the Applebee's on Windsor Spring Rd. just the other night. That was the first and last time that I will ever eat there. Received a gift card for Christmas and thought it'd be nice to use it. About two hours after eating there , it was all I could do to make it to my bed , stomach churning. Ugh! T' has an affordable steak sandwich that comes w/fries or onion rings-yum! Sconyers is the best for barbecue- Get a plantation platter for about $20 and eat all weekend. Harlem has a new Pizza Hut takeout, a delicious sub sandwich (at a convenience store,surprise-not the Jet). I did try a cheesesteak sandwich from a place called Zack's (Windsor Spring/Tobacco Rd) last week. Delicious! The place was clean ,too--that's a big bonus! All this talk about food is making me hungry. Going to make me a good 'ol baloney sandwich!

jtf, I can fix you up yes, I can!

You know another great place....The Old Edwards Inn in Highlands, NC. Wonderful steaks, and delicious smoked trout!!! Worth the drive, just to eat dinner. The Inn, itself, is very pricey, so if you want to enjoy a great dinner and save money on accommodations, try the Hampton Inn just down the road in Cashiers. It's very nice and a great value for the dollars. Save your cash for all the good shopping. You'd think, all I do is shop and eat:)

Riverman... The Laney Walker

Riverman... The Laney Walker and Bethlehem development includes two separate neighborhoods. The development is $37.5 million(visitors coming to Augusta funding the project), and not $50 million.

Justthefacts... I thought you were comparing the restaurants in South Augusta versus the other areas in the CSRA.

I can think of several establishments to take your wife..

Let's start with Frog Hollow on Broad street who GQ Magazine named one of the nations best restaurants.

My other top 10.
1. Five O'clock Bistro
2. La Maison
3. Eros Bistro
4. Chop House
5. Bistro 491
6. Tin Drum Asia Cafe
7. Taste in North Augusta
8. Calverts
9. Augustinos in the Marriott
10. Patridge Inn

Dichotomy.. Two Zack locations(Deans Bridge/Tobacco rd), Waffle House on Tobacco rd, etc recently opened in South Augusta.

Carolina's, Formerly Perdita's

It's located at 10 Exchange St in Charleston by the Cooper River Bridge. The ultimate in fine dining. Rated by the NY Times as one of the best restaurants on the east coast. I was a guy worried about the protocol who took a young lady there many decades ago because we Charlestonians knew it was the best place in the city. Very expensive, an event with lots of protocol. Guys, be prepared.

Okay, I'll take your word... the pay-off as described in a commission meeting by a commissioner was $37.5 million, you're saying.

I'm curious how visitors coming to Augusta fund the project? Or do you mean motel guests over the entire county, miles aways from Laney Walker, pay a motel tax that funds it? There are not many motels in the Laney Walker-Bethlehem area. So you are saying by your own estimates the TEE Center with the Laney Walker payoff costs $77.5 million?

JTF you so reminded of this...

"The Outing" is the 57th episode of the sitcom Seinfeld. It is the 17th episode of the fourth season, and first aired on February 11, 1993.

The line "...Not that there's anything wrong with that", as a reference to homosexuality, has become a popular catchphrase among fans.

hahah...loved that program...

Herman Cain

Realize Austin is mad that Herman Cain took Neil Boortz’s place because Herman didn’t say he got his radio start on Austin’s show. Herman says he first appeared on the radio on another radio show and that ticked Austin off big time. That’s what all this is about, with Austin having this campaign trying to replace the popular Herman Cain. I love Herman’s show as I think most of us do. Could it be that Cain saw the character of Austin and decided not to acknowledge what Austin wants?

Don't cut down Appling. We have a very good Sub Sandwich place at the Circle k gas station at the end of Columbia Road. They will fix it anyway you like. Special days they have Buffalo wings and box pizza. Heck sometimes the CIC and I even dress up to go there........

Realize Austin said months

Realize Austin said months ago that Herman was "getting senile" because Herman didn't say he got his start on Austin's show. Austin, is that true?

Austin even confronted Herman personally about the issue. Austin's tirade has nothing to do with Herman's performance on the show the past couple of weeks. WGAC is out of their minds if they replace the popular Herman Cain. Austin is trying to lead folks on the air and on Facebook into complaining. Pay attention, folks. Unreal.

Neil Boortz completely supports Herman. Neil remarked previously that when he wasn't available some of the stations across the country carrying the program complained unless it was Herman Cain. He never got one complaint when Herman did the show. You guys know I don't make up stuff. Check out my comments.
