Very cold air trapped along the east side of the Appalachians will spread into the state and likely cause precipitation in north Georgia to fall as a quarter-inch of freezing rain and sleet.
There is still a possibility there could be freezing rain or sleet mixed with rain locally on Friday morning, Tucker said in a news release.
The Arctic air mass pushing down today will bring in below-normal temperatures just in time for the arrival of wet weather from the south, according to Tenia Morrison, of the National Weather Service.
Augusta’s low temperature Friday morning is predicted to be about 30 degrees, and the high for the day will reach only the lower 40s, she said.
