Two teenagers were struck by a car on North Belair Road when they darted into traffic Friday night.

About 7:45 p.m., the teens ran into the path of a black Cadillac traveling southbound on North Belair Road, said Columbia County Sheriff’s Deputy Ted Powers.

Both pedestrians were taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital. One had non-life-threatening injuries and the second, who was unconscious when deputies responded, was alert when taken by ambulance, Powers said.

The driver will not be charged, Powers said.

The teenagers, who were not identified, were trying to cross the road from Brusters to the Evans Cinema.

A crosswalk was right there

A crosswalk was right there with a stoplight for safe crossing.
Was it just too much effort to wait, with a 1000 calories in hand, to be legal and safe, for the light?

But I do hope they heal and learn from this mistake.

Again, no home training

Adults, teens and children lack respect for cars because they have not been taught at home. Children are not taught to watch out for moving and stationary vehicles when crossing a street. I see all darting out in front of a car or just walking at will as if they have "rubber bumpers"on their bodies. Most children are no longer taught that cars can kill you, they lack total respect for a vehicle...SAD!

What if it was your child?

Funny..... reading people comments stating lack of home training in the comment section but um it seems to me the lack of home training is coming from the people making the post. Wonder if the shoe was on the other foot what your reaction would be???? No one mentioned those so called cameras at the light that can tell all !!! No, better yet how about people that use the crosswalk and people do not stop or texting and do not notice the people walking in the crosswalk?????? Guess different rules apply.

Yes to crosswalks

Yes, crosswalks are provided for safe crossing, but what about the clowns that run the light and the cross walk is green ...... Let me guess they should wait ten minutes before they cross. Again, wonder what the comment would be if the shoe was on the other foot?

How does the driver feel

I wonder if the driver has visited the family at the hospital ? I mean he was not charged but he still should have something to say. His car can be fixed but you can not get your child back!
