PAINE COLLEGE OPENS an expensive gym and calls it “educational.”

I AM NOT A graduate of either ASU or MCG, but I wonder if those alumni are thinking twice about donating money to the new GRU? I certainly would.

I WAS WONDERING IF you folks who so strongly want religion mixed with government will feel the same way when the religious majority in this country is Muslim.

MARION WILLIAMS, why don’t you stay in the pulpit and practice what you preach? Don’t be stirring up another hornet’s nest.

WHY DOESN’T THE blood center pay people for donating blood? You charge the hospital, and when they charge the patient there is a huge markup. Follow the money.

IS THERE NOT a physical fitness standard for sheriff’s deputies who are being sworn in?

RAVE TO THE men and women of law enforcement.

SHERIFF RICHARD Roundtree has no leadership ability, and to become the chief of any position, you have to have leadership.

SOMEONE STOLE MY newspaper from my front porch. I called to complain, and your carrier came right out with another paper. I really appreciate it.

RECENT REPORTS HAD deaths while gun owners were cleaning their guns. How do we go about banning guns for people who act in a stupid manner such as this?

WHEN 9-11 TOOK place, did you see anyone scrambling to blame Bush, Cheney and other higher-ups? No, you were scrambling to find out the direct identity of terrorists involved to blame them and their group. So why the attempted Benghazi witch hunt on any direct Americans who obviously did not cause the murders of our Americans?

WHERE ARE THE checks and balances when it  comes to looking after money? Why was $200,000 allowed to be siphoned off over a four-year period from the Evans homeowners association fund? Trust and verify is still the best approach to keeping tabs on what is happening.

It probably has something to do with the Obama administration denying there was a terrorist attack for weeks even though they knew the truth. What if Bush had blamed the 9-11 attacks on something other than Al Qaeda?

He did, we attacked Iraq!

He did, we attacked Iraq! One thing Sadam did not like and that was terrorist in his country or associated with him, because he was the terrorist in his country. Notice how many different types of terrorist have moved into Iraq, which would have never been allowed when Sadam was in power. The man was up front about this and did not hide his views or intentions, but bombing us in the manner that was said was not his style. Matter of fact the man hated Al-Qaeda ( Big Bin)and called them spineless babies! Now we are fighting a war that bankrupted a superpower and that superpower did not share our humanitarian views ( caring about civilians, torture and general human rights), but of course this has nothing to do with an out of control debt ( war is expensive on a daily basis, especially this new type)? The blame game does have its facts to be warranted? How many countries do we have bases in? How many countries do we have diplomats in? All for?

And the r/r said....

Have you ever heard of folks falling off roofs while raking leaves....running their car into a bridge......cutting a finger off with a knife.......drowning in a tub of water....falling asleep while driving.....falling down stairs......taking too many drugs.....& so it goes....

Sometimes i wonder ...are we living in the real world.....or is this make believe.....

"did you see anyone

"did you see anyone scrambling to blame Bush, Cheney and other higher-ups?"

I did not see Bush or Cheney claiming that it was a spontaneous attack of passengers on 4 aircraft that just, all of a sudden, decided to go drive into some buildings.

No one is going after anyone because the attack happened. Some of us want to know why they tried to cover it up as being a spontaneous protest instead of calling it a terrorist attack. And we want to know why they did nothing to respond during a 7 hour attack even though the people were on the phone, begging for support, and were lasing the targets in hopes an American aircraft or drone would come take out the heavy weapons positions that were killing them. Air assets that WERE available and 30 minutes away.

And We'd Also Like To Know...

...why the Obama Administration ignored all obvious signs that an attack was imminent and refused repeated written requests for additional security measures at the Embassy and the Annex during the months leading up to the attack.

And why, now over four months after the murder of the Ambassador, his Aide, and two former Navy Seals not a single one of the islamist terrorists have been brought to justice.

Dichotomy, exactly. Imagine the disillusioned Americans holding on for their lives those last hours, calling for help while orders were being sent to stand down and leave them to whatever happened.

Ummm, seems to me this is very much a self-limiting crime, wouldn't you think? No repeats.

"I don't want anybody's blood

...if they donated it for the money." Good thing you weren't in need when the national programs were around up until the late sixties. Two things happened then; the screening tests for all diseases were perfected and slowly, first by individual hospitals then states and finally, federal fiat, paid donations disappeared. The Red Cross pushed for most of this for the most basic reason: follow the money.

With today's battery of tests, paid donation would be as safe as any other, though it would undercut ARC's bottom line, and probably lead to ending the chronic shortages we've had for the past two decades.

Dstewart, there are periods

Dstewart, there are periods after some diseases are contracted where the person will test negative...an incubation period.

Blood money!

Blood is donated for free, but the hospital charges $450 per unit when it is used. Who gets the profit?

$450

That's the first time I have seen the charge for a unit of blood.
Closing in on ten gallons, all with Shepard.

Okay

That's an interesting factoid, RM, but Dstewart’s statement remains true. Whatever diseases you have in mind, the rate of contraction would be about the same for paid donors as for volunteer donors.
