Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

WHY DOESN’T AUGUSTA offer New Year’s Eve fireworks? I really want to see fireworks for New Year’s Eve, and I have to travel to Savannah or Atlanta.

REGARDING THE WOMAN who wanted her gun destroyed and had to get the sheriff’s office to come get it, she should also get rid of her ax, hammer, scissors, steak knives, cars and ball bats. Any of these things can kill if a nut case is wielding them. There are also several people who steal for a living who would love to know her home address is unprotected.

I THINK THE RESIDENTS of North Augusta should thank and maybe even have a ceremony to honor of the residents of Richmond County for electing commissioners who do not have the ability to do long-range thinking. They can’t even learn from past mistakes or events. They are so busy fighting each other trying to maintain their ego and self-centered agenda that their actions end up advancing the economy and development of surrounding cities and communities.

THIS IS A RAVE FOR the kind, honest man who found my cellphone in Bath & Body Works at Augusta Mall. Thank you very much for taking the time to look in the phone, retrieve my home number and call my husband to let him know where I dropped it. Meanwhile, I was frantically running from place to place trying to find it. You saved me a lot of trouble, and may God bless you and your family.

THOUGH I AM GLAD TO see an outside company will be managing The Patch, I find it amazing that any company would actually want to do business with Augusta’s dysfunctional government.

ON CHRISTMAS EVE, Israeli President Shimon Peres offered Christmas greetings during a visit to the residence of the Archbishop Elias Chacour in Haifa, where he sang Christmas songs with a children’s choir. On Christmas Day, the Israeli Defense Force sent Christmas greetings to their Christian friends. While the president of the nation with the largest Christian population on the face of the earth lit an insipid holiday tree, sang innocuous holiday songs, and sent out a politically correct holiday card with his dog on the cover. Sad; truly sad.

BIG RAVE AND THANK you to the person who found my purse at Fresh Market. God love you; you made my day!

Very disappointed...

River, yes. Lee Anderson was not my candidate, yet, I was very disappointed in the remark along with how much mileage the paper gave to it. I don't think Mr. Anderson and his family deserved that kind of public disrespect. How discouraging to other candidates when our former leaders, their spouses and our local paper set this type of example. The remark was not even funny; just mean. If Mr. Young has future political ambitions, this just may turn around and bite him where it hurts the most.

I wonder how...

Gwen would have felt to have someone skew her husband in the AC that way. He was far from perfect as a Mayor...

War cleanses?!?

What about the innocent Iraqi kids?
What about the innocent Afghan kids?
What about the INNOCENT PEOPLE?

Jane said: "...that murder and oppress others" In other words, you "kill me, I kill you." Since when does two wrongs make a right??? What does the Bible say about that?

For the record, IMO, Obama is as much a Christian as Augusta is not racially divided.

Maybe this has been said

because I haven't real all of the following posts.

"Frankly, the choice to disarm oneself is none of your business!"

And sir; frankly my decision to arm myself is none of your OR the imperial Federal Government's business...

I would Imagine That...

....quitting while serving as an elected Mayor with no more justification than making more money would be sufficient to end a political career. Maybe I'm wrong. And before anyone leaps to compare this to what Sarah Palin did I will say without hesitation that there is no reasonable comparison. (not that reason will stop the comparisons, mind you).

I thought that was very unbecoming as well. It is one thing for some of us anonymous people to observe that Mr. Anderson didn't have the "gravitas" to be an effective representative in today's political environment; quite another for well known public figures to say the same in very unflattering terms.

I see Mr Walker has once again dusted off the old race card. Why does that one always come out when it has nothing to do with the topic at hand?

Sometimes you just can't have your way..

The Supremes' singer Diana Ross continues to act supreme even though the soul group's popular reign has long passed. Last Thursday the singer was in a restaurant in Beverly Hill and threw a fit when she was told there would be a wait, reports the New York Post.

Ross arrived ahead of her daughter at the Italian eatery La Scala and was told that since she didn't have a reservation, she would not be seated until her party was complete. The diva threw a fit and sat herself in a booth anyway.

Management came to her table and informed Ross that if she cut the line for a table she would not be served. Ross refused to move. Once her daughter arrived a scene erupted, ending in both women leaving the restaurant in a huff.

The Post spoke with La Scala owner Gigi Leon who said:

"I'm sorry that Miss Ross had a problem with that and she feels that the rules didn't apply to her. Our policy is that we don't sit incomplete parties. If people jump the line, our policy is we don't serve them, and she was told that.

What, if any, race card implications attach to Obama's apparent shunning of minorities and females in his second term Cabinet appointments?

Can you imagine what the Press would be saying of a Republican made such appointments?

May 2012

Not sure what an article written back then is relevant to but Gov Brown's tax measure did get passed in the November 2012 election so we will see what impact that has on California.
