An event at Diamond Lakes on Wednesday will reward participants in Royal Youth International’s 7 Day Walk-A-Pedometer-Thon.

The “Healthy Affair” event, which benefits local health resource libraries for children and the construction of a one-room school house in Mozambique, will be held at the Diamond Lakes Recreation Center from 3-6 p.m.

According to a news release, the purpose of the event is to educate youth and parents on the benefits of physical fitness, encourage children to participate in physical activity daily and help children make healthy choices.

Activities include rewards and prizes for participants, health education and a healthy food tasting.

Participants will also be releasing balloons in honor of victims of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
