Pedestrian hit by vehicle hospitalized

An Augusta woman is in critical condition after being hit by a car about 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

According to Richmond County sheriff’s Sgt. Danny Whitehead, the 41-year-old woman left the Fishbowl Lounge on Lumpkin Road and was trying to cross Peach Orchard Road when she was struck by a Honda Accord on Peach Orchard Road. She was not using the crosswalk, he said.

The woman was taken to Medi­cal College of Georgia Hospital. No charges will be filed against the driver.

Saturday’s incident is the third involving a pedestrian in less than a week. On Monday, a 5-year-old boy was struck and killed trying to cross Peach Orchard Road. On Tuesday, a 47-year-old North Carolina man died after being hit by a car on Washington Road.
