Girl Scout Cadettes from Troop 2300 purchased and donated hats to cancer patients at Georgia Health Sciences University in lieu of Christmas presents to each other. The girls delivered the hats on Dec. 14. The troop includes Amalya Lewis, Genesis Campbell, Katlyn Johnson, Madelyn Olmos, Hannah Hall, Brittany Pritchett, Ivy Vandiver, Tallulah Schuman, Abigail Kross and Jessica Laake.  SPECIAL

Girls on the Run was recently awarded two grants: one for $14,500 from the Community Foundation of the CSRA and a $2,000 grant from the Border Bash Foundation.

The funds will be used to expand Girls on the Run to other counties, provide scholarships for at-risk girls and meet training costs.

Military news

Army National Guard Pvt. Hayden A. Polly has graduated from basic training at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga. He is the son of Lisa and Bruce Polly and a 2012 graduate of the Academy of Richmond County.
