Bicycles are still being sought for a program that refurbishes them for children for Christmas.

The Santa Wheels program, operated by Master Buick GMC in Martinez and Goodwill Industries, plans to donate more than 150 bikes to area children at a “bike rodeo” at 6 p.m. Thursday at Master Buick GMC, according to an announcement from Goodwill Director of Communications Susan Everitt.

Donations of bicycles for this year’s program will be accepted until noon Thursday, Everitt said.

With assistance from Andy Jordan’s Bicycle Warehouse, which provides parts for refurbishing the bicycles, workers in Goodwill’s job training program clean and restore the donated bicycles. Volunteers and workers from Master Buick also help.

Children who receive the bicycles are selected through an application to Goodwill’s Job Connections, and Everitt said many of the children who receive bikes have parents enrolled in Goodwill’s job training programs.

Safe Kids East Central also donates a helmet and bicycle safety training to each of the children receiving a bicycle.

Bicycles for the program can be dropped off at Master Buick GMC, 3710 Washington Road, Martinez, or at Andy Jordan’s, 527 13th St., Augusta. For information on Santa Wheels, or to volunteer, call (706) 564-4521.
