One person was still in critical condition Monday night after a vehicle heading in the wrong direction on River Watch Parkway led to a four-vehicle crash that sent six people to the hospital.

Monique Sullivan, 35, was westbound in the eastbound lanes with her husband and 4 year-old son as passengers about 10:50 a.m. when she hit two vehicles, authorities said.

Amelia Hiltz, 32, was in the same lane as Sullivan and tried to veer right before being hit by Sullivan’s 2003 Chevrolet Suburban. The Suburban then hit a car driven by Kevin Mollenhauer, 25, who was in the other lane. Mollenhauer’s car slammed into Hiltz’s, causing most of the damage, said Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Randy Prickett.

Sullivan’s SUV flipped and hit another car driven by Augusta lawyer Maureen Floyd, 52.

Hiltz was in critical condition Monday night at Medical College of Georgia Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Floyd was upgraded from critical to serious. Sullivan and her husband, Demond, were listed in fair condition, and Mollenhauer was treated and released.

The Sullivans’ son suffered scratches, Prickett said.

Deputies initially thought the child had been ejected from the vehicle but now think he crawled from it after the crash, Capt. Scott Gay said.

Sullivan entered the wrong side of the road at St. Sebastian Way, according to witnesses, and was traveling at high speed for almost three miles, Prickett said. The reason was still unclear Monday night.

Doug Herman said he witnessed the crash and was still shaking several hours after he chased the Suburban in an attempt to warn the driver.

Herman said he was at an intersection near Broad Street and River Watch when he saw the Suburban barrel through a red light and narrowly miss another vehicle. Then the Suburban headed up the wrong ramp.

Herman said he tried to flag down the driver, who was speeding with the flashers on.

“(She) was going so fast,” Herman said.

Several vehicles avoided the Suburban before it rounded a curve on River Watch, Herman said.

“I was so upset after all of this that I knelt down and said a prayer,” he said.

Sullivan will face charges of driving on the wrong side of the road. Other charges are possible pending an investigation.

“We don’t know if there was some type of impairment or some other condition that led to (the wrong direction of travel),” Gay said.

Cobalt- glad to see your priorities are straight. This horrible accident happens about an hour or two ago and talks of a child getting ejected and your concern is about how incomplete the report is so you can have enough information to make a comment??

This was a horrible accident

This was a horrible accident but I have to agree with CG. There isn't much information. The child that may have been ejected or crawled from the wreckage is serious but why no mention of the other injuries. It stated 6 went to the hospital. The article stated the man and child were sent to the hospital.....what about the condition of the woman in the vehicle with them, who were the other 3 individuals transported to the hospital and what is the condition of their injuries.

I seriously doubt CG was demeaning the seriousness of the child being hurt and only making a statement that this article lacks a lot of information so how can you make a comment on it. Basic accident information should have been available and wasn't mentioned.....

Have you folks ever heard of

Have you folks ever heard of HIPAA laws? The public's unfounded desire to have more information as to the seriousness of injuries does not trump each patient's right to privacy. This was a horrible, horrible traffic accident and the public has no immediate right to all information at this point. Be patient and respect the rights of those injured.

Im sure he is a good guy. It was the second line that stirred me. It implies that only the reason he is reading the article (or the only reason they posted the article) is for the purpose of making comments. At the time of his post, the accident was not even 2 hrs old and police were still on the scene cleaning up. I saw the wreckage going the other way on Riverwatch, and when I saw the childs jacket in the street, as a parent myself I came to this site to find out more. The comment definately tweaked me the wrong way. If we are patient, more information will come.

That demonstrates the danger

That demonstrates the danger in jumping to your own conclusion as a new poster. Those of us who are long time posters know exactly what his intent was. It was that there was too little information provided for comment or supposition. So you were actually doing what you mistakenly accused him of.

KSL- Im not here to condemn

KSL- Im not here to condemn anyone. I never called anyone a bad guy. Im not one of those guys looking to stir something but we should sometimes consider another point of view, regardless of how few posts they have. You validated exactly how I interpreted it in your post that what he was saying was "there was too little information provided for comment". Are we commenting about our ability to comment? Why is the ability to have info to be able to post about of any importance at all in this situation. Im sure hes a great guy. We all can get it wrong once in a while, I can attest to that.

Thank you. You got it right. One person say 3 individuals transported to the hospital and what is the condition of their injuries. Do we need to know everything? There were 6 people send to the hospital. do we need to know everything about these people? The answer is NO.

But he didn't get in wrong.

You were somewhat critical of another poster's comment without knowing his intent. Hang around enough and you will see posters jumping to conclusions and suppositions when a story first breaks.

By the way. You can't call another poster a bad guy. It is against the rules.

Nobody said he wasn't

I just said his opinion was based on insufficient information on the receiving end. I think your mentor would agree with that. Unless he changed drastically.

Let Me Make Something Real Clear

My one liner was taken completely wrong.....How many times in the past 3 years has AC reported and accident where a child or adult has been ejected from a vehicle in that accident. Usually the first comments and few after condemns someone with out knowing all the details. Some are really insulting and way out of line.

I meant that their wasn't enough information given to "Make a Comment"....My feeling goes out to all involved and Thank God was with the child.

First off, I hope and pray

First off, I hope and pray that everyone involved with this terrible accident will be okay. Secondly, I can't help but think some of the comments here indicate that some people spend ALOT of time on this forum...I mean, if you know about each other and each other's tendencies, then maybe that shows just how often you come on here. Oh, well....I guess it's a good thing that y'all know who's who and all that goes with it. Maybe that keeps the decorum and civility up around here, and that's always a good thing!

IMO, After viewing the video

IMO, After viewing the video and seeing the pictures of that damaged vehicle, it amazes me that there are some who don't believe there is a God. It is only by His Grace and Mercy that this 4 year old would be able to crawl out of that horrible wreckage with only minor scratches. Prayers for all those that were involved and those who remain in serious and critical condition.

Isn't a shame that so many believe that God didn't perform a miracle at that accident.

@CobaltGeorge

It's not a shame. We just realize that any god that actually exists and has the power to work miracles would have prevented the crash to begin with.

I do hope that all involved in this accident will be o.k. However, I'm wondering what the driver of the Suburban was doing when he took the wrong ramp. He obviously wasn't paying attention to his driving.

No, what is a shame is

No, what is a shame is someone thinking that God is suppose to be at our beck and call and prevent everything bad from happening.......We live our lives the way we want, when we want, how we want, totally ignoring Him and disobeying His Word but by golly He better prevent anything bad happening to any of us or else I'm not going to believe he exist.
