Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

A $500 MILLION jackpot! Wow! A lump-sum payout of $327 million, before taxes. The lottery already collected more than a fair share for education and the IRS will deal with the winner. I wonder where the other $173 million goes.

HOW DID THE Richmond Education Board “evaluate” Superintendent Frank Roberson if Roberson was sick the whole time and thus didn’t do anything to be evaluated for? Government hard at work!

I JUST PASSED A wedding being held at a local wedding venue. A wedding on the last Saturday in November! Really? Obviously, the couple are not football fans.

IS THERE A DIFFERENCE in disturbing the peace? Loud church bells vs. loud car stereos.

THIS RANT IS ABOUT Augusta DFCS; they are worthless! All they do is sit and draw their paycheck.

THE PRESIDENTIAL RACE showed that liberals are easily manipulated by make-believe issues settled long ago rather than ruinous present-day threats. Their preposterous issues are a feared takeover by Christian extremists and the removal of all social entitlements. A kind, eminently qualified man was vilified and defeated by the worst president in history, thanks to mob naiveté, dogma and scuttlebutt. Sad and nauseating.

THE PEOPLE NOT paying taxes now are the ones who will not be paying the new stormwater tax.

YOU NEED TO change the Rants & Raves column to Republican Rants because all you ever print is rants about President Obama and high gas prices, President Obama and the Affordable Health Care Act ,or anything negative on the president.

I COUNTED ALMOST 100 South Carolina tags in just Pepperidge subdivision after midnight for a solid month, so there are some of Georgia’s taxes being paid in the state of South Carolina but they are living in Georgia. Just think of all the other subdivisions they reside in in Augusta.

I READ A REPORT last night that I think everyone needs to read, Democrats, Republicans, independents, blacks, whites, and all the colors between. It is ‘History of the Frankfurt School,’ by Dr. Gerald Atkinson. It is the most interesting and eye-opening report I have ever read.

Wedding

Obviously not everyone is a college football fan or maybe their team was not playing or playing well (Ga Tech comes to mind). At least they were getting married instead of shacking up.

DFCS

That comment made me LOL. It's like the pot calling the kettle black. The workers may be just sitting there collecting a paycheck, but so are you. It's funny, because you're going to the DFCS office to collect your monthly "paycheck", yet you're saying they're not working?!?

#6...Liberals are easily manipulated....

"A kind, eminently qualified man was vilified and defeated by the worst president in history..."

Kudos to the commentator on FOX News that convinced this ranter to believe his statement (above) for his magical manipulatory powers that brought this sore loser to believe what he has offered in his opinion (above) of the President's victory over the conservatives on November 6,2012. Sadly, the light of reason has not yet penetrated his (the ranter) befuddled thinking at present.

However, I wish the ranter a Happy Holiday season. The spirit of the times should help to relieve his misery.

#8..."change the Rants & Raves column to Republican Rants..."

Well, in defense of the AC, they did publish the ranter's comment...so...the AC could argue that they are indeed "fair and balanced" in their response to reader's stated concern.

BUT of course, if there are only one or two posters from the left side of the aisle, and at least 2,500 others from the right, it would be a long stretch to credit the AC with being fair and balanced.

Still, I would also suggest that those 2.500 right-sided posters on the AC threads only represent a minor part of the 35% of the overall U.S. population, and therefore, they alone can only qualify as being members of a small number of the national club of radicals from the far right.

So. perhaps those one or two posters from the left..those that are a part of the "majority" in America, are still being recognized by the AC even though the AC appears to be to the right of the majority nationwide.

Yep, fair and balanced is the good 'ol AC.

RE: ranter #3

There are some people who'd rather not sit around yelling at the TV on the weekends. We also wonder why football programs in highschool eat up so much of the school systems budgets. Its like the athletic lottery er something.

Are we narrow minds & ignorant fools

Some say we are.....even post it on here...(btw I would never post that in a northern paper)
You know what...water does wear down rocks after awhile.....we see it through history all the time...
This is what worries me .....google the politics of Clayton county Ga especially the Sheriffs race & also the school system....this is an example of what happens when people DON'T vote for the most qualified person.....color doesn't matter.....also look at Dekalb county school system too....in other words ...folks are not flocking to live in these counties......we need to stop blaming people from running away from bad schools--wasted gov tax money & start working on the REASONS....

Give republicans a break, their party will be non-existant in 8 years. the state of Texas has forty percent of its voters as hispanic and will be over fifty percent by 2017. those electorial votes added to California and Florida will put an end to a stagnant party.

A rave for my beloved Charleston...

Of all the places I have shopped and toured, I still love Charleston the best. It's close by, has fabulous shopping, whether you enjoy designer shopping on historical King Street, Market Street boutique fun, or name brand outlet malls. They are known for their restaurants, have great accommodations from all price points, incredible architecture, historical, events, scenic, friendly; something for everyone to enjoy.

I average visiting 5 to 6 times a year and never tire of revisiting old places and discovering new ones. This week, after we tired of seafood, (that is possible), we tried Nick's Barbeque on King. The pulled pork was the best I've eaten.

You can do the trip in one day, if you get an early start, which I do sometimes in the summer months. It is more enjoyable, to stay as long as you possibly can.

Give the young people who are

Give the young people who are entering the work force now a few years and when they see their dwindling paychecks, you will see them rapidly converting to Republican.
Liberalism might look good to them now, but when they have to pay their "fair share" ....whoa nellie.

GGAP....."that those 2.500

GGAP....."that those 2.500 right-sided posters on the AC threads only represent a minor part of the 35% of the overall U.S. population"

As Reagan would say, there you go again. Please feel free to continue to just make up ridiculouls numbers and stick them into totally incomprehensible sentences and think you have said something snarky.

You might want to find another place to hang out because it's just going to get worse starting in January when the taxes and fees of Obamacare start hitting the lower middle and middle class. Oh yeh........just for you pet lovers........not only will your healthcare insurance double again next year, your veteranarian bills will be going higher too because the Obamacare TAX on medical devices also applies to the instruments your vet uses too. The "rich" will pay their fair share of that one and so will YOU.

The good news is that Obama has found a way to cure the unemployment problem. So many people have given up looking for work that "unemployment" rate has dropped. The welfare, food stamp, and SSI disability rates are skyrocketing and Obama has made things so miserable that another 370,000 folks quit looking for a job last month. Technically the unemployment rate went down. Technically if EVERYBODY quit looking for work the unemployment rate would be ZERO. I guess that's one way to whip that nasty unemployment problem.

Now here is a REAL number. For those few of you who still actually PAY federal income taxes, FOR EVERY 5 OF YOU WHO STILL PAY TAXES, YOU ARE SUPPORTING EITHER 4 WELFARE RECIPIENTS and/or GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES. And that number will soon reach 5/5 with the expansion of the welfare roles and increasing size of government. THAT IS THE REAL CLIFF FROM WHICH THERE IS NO RETURN. The TAKERS will outnumber the EARNERS.

Exactly.

As Margaret Thatcher so eloquently remarked......

“The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money. ”

That's when the ruling class seals the borders, takes away your firearms, and forces you to work for the "common good."

We're racing toward Communism and most don't even know it.

Anybody want to bet on the

Anybody want to bet on the "cliff" issue? The aftermath of the outcome will surely cause many to consider changing from consertive to liberal. Thankfully, I'm an independant, but that doesn't mean much with the present congress. Of course they don't care one way or the other, because they are more able to afford the higher taxes. I'm not holding my breath waiting for Boehner who says Obama is pushing the U.S. toward "fiscal cliff." Heck fire, he's as guilty as Obama, as they are both
planning on the higher taxes. I say, fire them all, and run in a new batch of crooks!

Not a cute poodle, but perhaps, a simple pound dog surrounded by a pack of carping curs.

Some of the latter, it would appear, seem to enjoy SHOUTING out their bit of baloney now and then.
