Rants & Raves

TOMMY PRICE. CHARLES Nagle. Sandra Carraway. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

A RANT TO OUR Augusta Commission members for giving property owners a new property tax in the form of a stormwater fee. The passage of the special purpose local option sales tax a few years ago was to improve the infrastructure of the drainage system and free up general funds to do maintenance. Again we the property owner has been misled. Thank you, Augusta Commission.

RAVES TO THE British bride in the paper – and to the other European brides like Kate Middleton – who demonstrate modesty, elegance and class in their choice of wedding gowns. Contrast that with the bare-backed, bare-shouldered and plunging necklines of most of the American brides who think it’s still respectful to look “sexy” during their church service.

IT’S A SHAME THAT President Obama is out there in campaign mode again selling his one and only solution (tax the rich) to deficit reduction. It’s time that he shows leadership in getting all parties together to work diligently to come with a solution that all can agree on. It won’t be easy but with the proper leadership it can be done. Stop wandering around the country wasting time.

A BIG RAVE TO Deanna Brown-Thomas and other Brown children who now sponsor a proper charity giveaway with registration and proof of kids and income for the turkey and toy giveaways. Now the truly needy will be helped with the meal meat and the toys. If only all charities could be conducted that way to freeze out the freeloaders.

YOUR NEWSPAPER reported recently that there were nearly 400,000 girls between ages 15 and 19 who gave birth in 2010. I am just wondering how much of my tax money were used to support these illegitimate babies? I don’t particularly like having to provide support for the irresponsible actions of others.

A HUGE RAVE FOR Angus T. Jones of Two and a Half Men. My prayer is that he will become a leader and continue to speak out against such shows as this one, which has so many moral wrongs that are being seen by our young TV viewers. May God bless him.

THIS IS A RANT about parking at the commissary at Fort Gordon for disabled military people. Since so many people have come here, there has not been any increase in the number of “disabled” spots for disabled retirees and active military. The commandant needs to reassess the parking lot.

How much?

"I am just wondering how much of my tax money were used to support these illegitimate babies?"

Ranter #6.....I don't have a "baby count" but for every 1.25 (one and a quarter) working taxPAYER you are paying for 1 welfare recipient and/or government employee salary.

The Secretary of Public Welfare in Pennsylvania just released a report that says a single mom who earns a gross income of $29,000 a year, which qualifies her for food stamps, Section 8, and Medicaid, etc., has MORE DISPOSABLE INCOME than a working mom who works and earns a gross income of $69,000 a year and therefore is not eligible for public assistance.

Whatever the causes, something is very upside down and BASS ACKWARDS with our welfare system.

I can't imagine our founders foreseeing a nation that incentivized a situation where someone would say "please boss, don't DOUBLE my pay 'cause I'll loose my welfare benefits".

We are a sick sick country and deserve to go over a cliff.

Thank you augusta resident & seenitB4

Thank you for mentioning and remembering Pearl Harbor Day. I am very surprised that the AC didn't have an article about it or remember any of the local veterans that may still be surviving.
I knew two local Navy men that were there that day. They have both passed on many years ago. Their names were Bill Buck and Joe Buck. Joe told about being on a heavily damaged ship that was taking on water and being flooded. In an effort to rescue a badly burned seaman who was trying to stay afloat, he grabbed the man around his torso and the burnt skin came off in his hands. The seaman then disappeared underwater.
Bill Buck was on the USS Raleigh when the attack occurred. He was on deck when the first wave came and thought that the planes were flying a little low. After the first explosion he knew something was not right. His ship had minimal damage and was able to set out to sea.
My wife's father was also there but as a civilian. As a new graduate from Purdue with a degree in civil engineering, he was working for the Defense Department. On a high hill overlooking Pearl Harbor he witnessed the destruction. Shortly thereafter he enlisted in the Navy to serve his country.
I don't know how many more veterans of Pearl Harbor are left but I join thousands and thousands of other grateful Americans in remembering and honoring you on this day.

Amazing Karma...:)

The Australian DJs behind the prank phone call to the hospital where a pregnant Kate Middleton was staying have left their radio show indefinitely, NBC News reported on Friday.

With the news that the nurse who took the phone call has apparently committed suicide, Mel Greig and Michael Christian, the hosts of the morning show on 2DayFM in Sydney, were besieged with outraged messages on Twitter.
