The American Red Cross of Augusta is collecting holiday cards for military service members, veterans and their families through Friday.

The Holiday Mail for Heroes program delivers holiday messages and notes of thanks to service members at military bases and hospitals, according to a news release. All cards are screened for hazardous materials before volunteers sort and package them.

Care packages, monetary gifts and letters are not accepted, and cards should not use glitter or include inserted material or photos. All cards should be signed by the sender and use generic salutations. Cards addressed to specific individuals cannot be delivered through the program.

Affix adequate postage to the envelope and mail the cards to Holiday Mail for Heroes, American Red Cross of Augusta, 1322 Ellis St., Augusta, GA 30901.

For more information and additional guidelines, visit www.redcross.org/holidaymail. Cards received after the Friday deadline will be returned to the sender.
