Rants & Raves

  • Follow Metro

THE CHRONICLE online crime map has become a very useful instrument in our daily lives. The problem is that it is not being updated as regularly as we would like. Please make arrangements to speed up that information and help us feel safer.

THANKS TO THE Bridge Ministry and the other organizations who provided a hot turkey dinner and a new coat at the annual Thanksgiving dinner and worship service to 1000 homeless or impoverished people. Keep up the good work!

I KNOW, MR. PRESIDENT, that it was urgent and important for you to take a trip to Asia right now but don’t forget your promise to take a trip to Israel early in your second term. They could really do with the visibility right now in these troubling times.

TO THE RANTER who commented on Roundtree’s training: any job that is worth having will always provide training for the selectee. There are certain facets of every position that will require a particular skillset and preparation.

AMERICA IS AS great a place as it ever was. Those who declare that “THEIR” America is being whisked away are part of the problem. Become part of solution and embrace change; contribute.

IT IS A SAD DAY when four deaths in Benghazi overshadows the thousands of deaths in wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The death toll continues to rise, but partisan bickering and political grandstanding is more patriotic than paying tribute to our fallen warriors.

I AM A RIGHT-WING, Ronald Reagan/Barry Goldwater Conservative US Army Veteran. And I totally agree with Col. Ann Wright. We never should have attacked Iraq.

IT IS AMAZING to me that so many commenting in this column are so concerned about Israel. It would better serve the people here in America if you were more concerned about how you treat them.

TED KOPPEL RECENTLY opined that the conservative and progressive news channels on cable TV should be eliminated: that would help bring our country back to reality. I tend to agree, and I also go as far as saying the same about biased newspapers. Nobody wants to know your opinion.

RAVE AND HOLIDAY blessings to Wal-Mart, BI-LO and Amerigroup for buying the giveaway turkeys. We thank you.

Does the ranter mean the four

Does the ranter mean the four American deaths in Benghazi due to the video? (Sarcasm)

Israel...#3 and #10

As an aside...might I ask...of those Americans that champion the Israelis right to the land that was given back to them in 1947, would you so readily support whole heartedly the right of our own Native Americans to be given back their land today?

Or, is your support of Israel only based on who are (or were) supposed to be "God's chosen people," while our own first Americans were not blessed (so to speak) with "God's selective choice" on this continent.

It is a sad day...

Some may question your wording or intent, I for one, will not.

4 years of partisan bickering and political grandstanding, on both sides of the aisle, have done more to bring our government to its present low than any one incident...good or bad...that has taken place in my lifetime.

Thank you indeed to these organizations that helped in this charitable cause.
On a side note, I don't hear very much about the Kroc Center in the newspaper. What is going on there? Are they having a positive effect in Harrisburg and the CSRA? Have any of you posters gone to any of the events that they sponsor? Just wondering because when it was announced that they were going to build the center in Augusta I researched the other Kroc Centers and was impressed with what I read about how they have positively effected the communities that they are in.

Yes, let's just eliminate them. That freedom of speech thingy is just a big pain in the behind for our gov't officials. Better to just expand NPR and it's state run news. They will tell us what we think.

I didn't know we still have concentration camps in the world but evidently we do...many hundreds of thousands in N Korea....some are killed daily...their crime....nothing that they did..their grandparents tried to escape from Korea or someone in their family might have done something......they are starved---beaten--tortured--& hanged--shot....of course the leaders say this is not true BUT our spy in the sky can see the camps & the few who have escaped confirm this info....

Think about this....we won't let animals live like that....why are we quiet about this.........I know we can't protect the world but how do we pick & choose which ones we attack....is iraq more important----or Egypt.......Libya......please help me with this ....it is disturbing to me..

a funnie

The teacher asked the class to use the word 'fascinate' in a sentence. Molly put up her hand and said, 'My family went to my granddad's farm, and we all saw his pet sheep. It was fascinating.'
The teacher said, 'That was good, but I wanted you to use the word 'fascinate, not fascinating'. Sally raised her hand. She said, 'My family went to see RockCity and I was 'fascinated.'
The teacher said, 'Well, that was good Sally, but I wanted you to use the word 'fascinate.' Little Johnny raised his hand. The teacher hesitated because she had been burned by Little Johnny before. She finally decided there was no way he could damage the word 'fascinate', so she called on him. Johnny said, 'My aunt Gina has a sweater with ten buttons, but her breasts are so big she can only fasten eight.

Fascination

Hey Seenit. See if you can post a YouTube link to the song "Fascination" by Homer and Jethro. The last line of their fractured lyrics are very similar to your joke above.

Koppel?

Of course Ted Koppel failed to mention that his employer, NBC, essentially functions as a Democrat super-PAC along with the other 2 broadcast networks and NPR.

Rant # 3

I was reading rant #3 and scratching my head wondering what good the ranter thinks Obama's going to Israel would do. Obama detests Netanyahu, and the feeling is likely mutual (of course, Netanyahu is courteous to Obama, while Obama does not extend the courtesy).

Then I thought of one thing good that might come out of an Obama visit to Israel. While he is there, Hamas will stop lobbing missles at Israel out of kinship with their Muslim brother.

Jake, the Kroc Center had

Jake, the Kroc Center had Dave Ramsey there a couple of months ago. That seems like a pretty good event to sponsor to help Harrisburg. Ramsey PREACHES pay your bills and stay out of debt. I imagine I would go there for some speaker. It does kind of give the right sized venue and so on for speakers of various persuasions.

LL, Obama's whisper opinion

LL, Obama's whisper opinion of Netanyahu was caught on mike as was his whisper to tell Putin to just wait until after the election. Both comments are worrisome.

Facilitate the giving. Organize the distribution.
Unpublished

The issue in the minds of some would be, who is getting the credit? And who is actually giving? Does it not appear that the Brown Family, not limited to their charity, actually gives away something paid for by others. This is the government model and it works. Those receiving entitlements have only scorn for the taxpayers who provide their goodies.

SRS is the number one charitable group at Christmas Time. Toys for Tots and money. Others facilitate the hand to hand giving and receive the credit.

Giving, one to one, is rare. Giving without a "dog and pony " show is even more rare.

hahahah

A union boss walks into a bar next door to the factory and is about to
Order a drink to celebrate Obama’s victory when he sees a guy close by
Wearing a Romney for President button with two beers in front of him.
He doesn't have to be an Einstein to know that this guy is a
Republican. So, he shouts over to the bartender so loudly that
Everyone can hear, "Drinks for everyone in here, bartender, but not
For the Republican."

Soon after the drinks have been handed out, the Republican gives him a
Big smile, waves at him, then says, "Thank you!" in an equally loud
Voice. This infuriates the union boss.

So the union boss once again loudly orders drinks for everyone except
The Republican. As before, this does not seem to bother the
Republican. He continues to smile, and again yells, "Thank you!"

So just to make his point one more time, the union boss once again
Loudly orders drinks for everyone except the Republican. But, as
Before, this does not seem to bother the Republican. He continues to
Smile, and again yells, "Thank you!"

Frustrated, the union boss asks the bartender, "What the heck is the
Matter with that Republican? I've ordered three rounds of drinks for
Everyone in the bar but him, and all the silly joker does is smile and
Thank me. Is he nuts?"

Nope....he owns the place....bartender says...

Traffic Signal

Where's the traffic signal at the corner of Lewiston Rd and William Few Parkway that was promised last Spring to be installed "this summer now that the County and State Highway Dept's have reached an agreement"?
Also, the blinking light installed at the intersection of Chamblin Rd and William Few Pkwy is a HUGE waste of tax dollars - there's already a warning sign, a stop sign and the bumps in the road to slow people down. Now we have a redundant yellow and red blinking light! It also needs a regular traffic light.

Listening to the news on radio a few minutes ago and it sent me back 10 years or more ago. I could swear I am hearing a rerun of the attack on Iraq when I hear Hillary threaten the leader of Syria..Gasing his people, all the atrocities...same old song and dance.
