Beginning Monday. the public can apply to be placed on a waiting list while the program assists the remaining 550 elderly residents on a waiting list from its November application period, said program coordinator Patricia Johnson.
In November, low-income residents older than 65 were eligible for funds. New applicants must meet low-income requirements but are not restricted by age.
The authority was originally allocated $1.1 million in federal funds that was used to aid 2,451 households. Last week, additional funding totaling $2.1 million was received, which will serve 6,050 more households, Johnson said.
Applicants will be helped on a first come, first served basis, she said.
