Senior citizen asks for help from 'The Augusta Chronicle' Empty Stocking Fund to keep warm

  • Follow Metro

A senior citizen who has become disabled would like some help getting warm clothing.

“I am asking to be considered,” she writes, “so I might acquire undergarments, gloves and a hat for the cold month to come. I continue to mend the very worn ones that I have. This is the only request I have for material things for Christmas. Receiving this would be the answer for my Christmas prayer.”

The Augusta Chronicle Empty Stocking Fund has helped people such as this for 82 years. Last year, the charity raised more than $104,000 that helped children and families across the region.

Donations are tax-deductible. To contribute:

• Mail donations to The Augusta Chronicle’s Empty Stocking Fund, P.O. Box 1928, Augusta, GA 30903-1928.

• Drop off donations at the cashier’s office at The Chronicle News Building, 725 Broad St., weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and at the Columbia County Bureau, Publix shopping center, 4272 Washington Road, Suite 3B, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

If you are smart enough to

If you are smart enough to mend, you are smart enough to do. Like find a way to a charity. Now that comes from my spouse, not from me.

That scenario just does not sound plausible to me.

It sounds plausible to me.

It sounds plausible to me. Times are tough. Many people have been self sufficient their whole lives and are not familiar with the charitable organizations that are there to help.
Give this lady the benefit of the doubt. There are scammers in this world with a sob story that isn't true and then there are truly needy folks. A hat, gloves and some undergarments is not that great of a request. Tell your spouse to have a heart. You never know when you may be in a situation that you thought you'd never be in.
