Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

A SECTION OF TOWN goes to pieces because the inhabitants allow it. When that happens, the only revitalization that works is for those same people to wake up, get to work and control themselves. Obviously, the 15th Street crowd isn’t doing that.

BLACK KNIGHT FOOTBALL fans and parents of players: Please remember to support your coaches and be a good example to students/players. Negativity and naysayers will never build a strong program.

HUGE RAVE TO THE Columbia County Adult Softball Program. I am amazed that they took change so well and have had the same employees for years. It is truly an honor to talk with each of the employees mostly every night.

CREATING A NEW $70,000 government job is not going to do a darn thing to attract retail businesses to Augusta. The problem is that the population of Augusta has been stagnant for the past 20 years, whereas neighboring Columbia and Aiken counties have grown by leaps and bounds.

AS A RETIRED Richmond County educator, I would like to say to the Terrace Manor principal: Bravo!

RAVES TO MR. KEN, the Columbia County Transit bus driver. He is always kind and caring to the customers. He is always cordial and nice to you.

THE GOVERNMENT geniuses who will blow more big money to do nothing to help 15th Street and environs pretend “planting trees close together” and installing bike racks is a cure. 1. Does it cost $1.8 million for some trees and racks? 2. If they plant trees close together, doesn’t that just give the crooks more places to hide?

SPECIAL THANKS TO the folks at Ruby Tuesday for finding my eyeglasses and holding them for me after a recent meal at their Evans location.

RANT FOR THE Richmond County deputies who patrol Windsor Spring Road for harrassing young boys just because they are walking by the road. I have seen this happen two times. This is uncalled for. No wonder the cops are hated. It’s like they want to see kids screw up.

A REMINDER TO BARRY and his tax-and-spend regime that the top 2 percent of wage earners already shoulder about 30 percent of the nation’s tax burden.

Nov 6, we became an ineptocratic country.

Ineptocracy: Ineptocracy (in-ep-toc'-ra-cy) - a system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

Just curious as to which rant/rave were you commenting on?

Way to go Black Knights, the Terrace Manor principal, Ruby Tuesday's, and the ever popular Mr. Ken (my hero).

BTW, in case anyone has forgotten, it's Nov 27th, the election ended 22 days ago.

@FedEx

None. This is the venue for posters to place their own rants and raves as well as comment on the ones published.
Lately, the published comments have been less inviting for comments, so we might as well stir the pot for some debate.

Richmond County growing much faster

#4... The population of Richmond County was only stagnant between 2000-2010(really only 2000-2005).... I have no idea where you getting the last 'twenty years' comment from. 9 milllion people live in the state of Georgia, but if you want to shop at either Apple, Costco, Sephora, Pandora, Williams Sonoma, etc. The person would have to visit metro Atlanta or Richmond County. The previous decade also has nothing to do with the present.. That's why you have the 25 acre shopping center/10k sq. ft. Shoppes at Dyess Park coming to Jimmie Dyess Parkway near Gordon Hwy. A new 13 acre shopping center along Gordon Hwy near Robinson Avenue, and the Savannah River Bank subdivision(commercial lots)next to the Home2Suites by Hilton under construction. Two 4k sq. ft. buildings opening in front of Kroger on Washington road, Walmart & Windsor Jewelers on Wrightsboro rd, Walmart neighborhood market/other amenities on 15th street, and P.S From Aeropostale/Francesca Collections/Pink & Blue store/Soma/Charming Charlie at the August mall.

Expect new things in 2013

I forgot to mention the Village at Riverwatch, Carmax area aka Wheeler Town Park, and the 44 acres at I-20/Walton Way Extension will bring new retail not presently located outside of metro Atlanta. While Athens is getting Trader Joes, Savannah Whole Foods, and Bass Pro already exist in Macon/Savannah. There's still the Container Store, Dave & Busters, J Crew, Brooks Brothers, H&M, Gander Mountain, World Market, etc. Target/retail/restaurants are going to open some kind of development in South Augusta eventually.

#7... The $1.8 million grant is for 15th, Milledgeville, MLK, and Deans Bridge road. Please read the comments below I shared a few days ago on the subject..

''Remove abandoned homes/commercial buildings. Bring in new homes, businesses, landscaping park space, sidewalks, bicycle lanes, streetlights, etc. Keep in mind the $1.8 million grant is one of several new things coming to the area. DOT is going to widen 15th street($21 million), and Cherry Tree/Sunset is being demolished.''

Morning Blue Sky Black Cloud America, Friends & Avatar Haters

I see the AC R&Rs don't want any comments from me today.

I don't have the knowledge to debate any Augusta Richmond County problems with any expertise but give my feelings to those that have to deal with it.

Sports are not my bag. Heck, I maybe couldn't tell you the difference between a Hockey Stick and a Baseball Bat. Now if there was one that had Mauser, Sig Sauer or the Judge in it, I might jump in.

So I'm left with a thanks to Ruby Tuesdays for returning the eyeglasses to an unfortunate person.

RANT FOR THE Richmond County deputies who patrol Windsor Spring Road for harrassing young boys just because they are walking by the road
I say---GOOD FOR THE POLICE---with the crime in that area that is exactly what they need to do.....if my child was stopped & was innocent ...what would he have to fear...a few questions...keep up the good work & if the neighbors ever get wise they would do the same thing in thei area.

Christmas

Why is Christmas, the beliefs of Christians being attacked but other religions are not.

RI Governor lights "Holiday Tree" and demands that it will be only called that.

You don't see Christmas in any stores any more.

The word Christmas is being classified as offensive as the "N" word.

Then you wonder why we live in such a screwed up society.....

Police are our sheepdog

Harley put a very interesting link on here last night ..please read it....
We are like sheep....
The sheep generally do not like the sheepdog. He looks a lot like the wolf. He has fangs and the capacity for violence. The difference, though, is that the sheepdog must not, can not and will not ever harm the sheep. Any sheep dog who intentionally harms the lowliest little lamb will be punished and removed. The world cannot work any other way, at least not in a representative democracy or a republic such as ours.

The police are our sheepdog......the world can't work without them...you wouldn't want to live in the world without them....

There are innocent citizens who have been stopped by the police and have wound up dead. There are bad cops that have killed innocent civilians and have lied to cover it up.

Words from another poster that totally disagree with you feelings.

Unpublished

Though the circumstances of Al-Awlaki's death are well documented, the State Department took the routine step of producing a “Report of Death of American Citizen Abroad,” in which the cause of death was listed as “unknown.”

Why is it so hard for this administration to just tell the truth?
Maybe they should have insisted that he was killed by a youtube video....

My Support for the Richmond County deputies

who patrol Windsor Spring Road (AREA) and South Side.
What you are doing is called community involvement and part of the process of getting to know the people in the patrolled area.

It is also part of the New Sheriff 's Community Policing process that he plans to implement.

Who Does Woody Merry Support?

I detect a little controversy in the District One race with Lori Davis' letter to the editor. She is supporting William Fennoy because she feels Matt Aitken is a puppet of the cabal. (Imagine that. Heh.)

Woody Merry has been seen leading law and order protests in Harrisburg, Davis' home, against crime. Davis has long been a law and order advocate for Harrisburg. Merry was apparently wearing a pistol in a holster while cutting down a tree and painting warnings on walls. Don't you feel better knowing mild mannered Woody Merry is packing? Heh. But maybe he has made up with Fennoy after their fisticuffs that ended up in court? I wonder what the deal is? Woody, who are you supporting?
