In a season of abundance and joy, many area residents are not so fortunate. Those are the people The Augusta Chronicle Empty Stocking Fund hopes to help.
During the past decade more than $1 million has been raised to help caregivers, the sick, the elderly and, most importantly, children.
Last year, donations totaled more than $104,000, which helped more than a 1,000 families and individuals through a difficult holiday.
Since 1930, the Empty Stocking Fund has helped the community share the spirit of Christmas by helping those less fortunate. The newspaper covers administrative costs of the charity so that donations go directly to those in need.
The deadline to return an application for help is Dec. 7.
Donations are tax-deductible.
