GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Hall County officials say they have determined a landfill owned by Gov. Nathan Deal’s business partner violated local zoning laws when it was composting food waste.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported Monday officials have not imposed any penalties on the landfill’s owner, Ken Cronan. The landfill will remain open, although food waste will no longer be processed there.

A stench of rotting food wafting from the landfill, which is near an auto salvage yard Cronan co-owns with Deal, became a source of complaints from nearby neighbors.

The landfill was originally zoned to accept trash from construction and demolition projects, although Cronan did receive state permits earlier this year to begin a composting operation and accept food waste.

The newspaper said Cronan did not respond to a call seeking comment.

Oh no. The great smelly

Oh no. The great smelly landfill caper. So they violated zoning laws but they had a permit??????????? And no fines or penalties were assessed. I'm shocked.....obviously Deal should be hanged.

The only thing I smell is the AJC grasping for something to print.

Guess there ain't much news in Atlanta today. You want smelly, try the Benghazi coverup.

So does that mean that if Deal knows someone who commits murder that he is tied to it?

This is liberals creating news that isn't there. Lies and innuendos. It is the liberal way.

When you properly compost food waste it does not stink. So, either they don't know what they are doing or they are not composting and they are just another stinky landfill.

You need to add nitrogen to a composting operation to get the temperature up. Many places use green manure. You can get some pretty bad odors there until the reaction reaches a certain point and the odors go away.
