The designation was announced at the NAACP State Convention, which was held in Marietta, Ga., Oct. 11-14.
Other awards the Augusta Branch received include the Ruby Hurley Award for the greatest increase in adult memberships; the Robert Flanagan Award for the greatest increase in overall memberships in the last year; and the Donald Hollowell Award for Education Lawsuits and the Rockin Reader Program, which is sponsored by Cracker Barrel. Augusta Branch President Dr. Charles Smith was presented the Richard Harris Political Action Leadership Award.
Navy Seaman Recruit Nicholas D. Wendland recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. He is the brother of Joseph C. Wendland of Fort Gordon.
